Yeah, I know all that. Meta also went all in on the "metaverse" which currently seems to have collapsed even with Trump's backing and crypto-bros making some money out of it. The VR stuff is an outpost of that. It's not and won't be getting mass adoption for the same reason 3D TVs weren't the future despite Hollywood ploughing money into it. Meta have more money than sense, and haven't had much success out their core, wildly successful, business. Cost isn't holding back VR, it's cheap! Lighter heat sets will help, but ultimately people don't want to sit in their living room with tech strapped to their face. It's been five years away from mass adoption for about ten years, but yet... I'll see you back here in five years!
I'm not anti-VR, I actually think there's some interesting things happening in the sector, but I don't think the "seat in the stadium" model will ever, ever be popular enough to warrant associated broadcast costs. The best seat in the stadium isn't a scratch on traditional broadcast for immersion and entertainment.
