Gabriel Jesus 2018-19 performances

Sorry but this is just a stupid post and one which completely goes against the point of having a thread to discuss performances.

Jesus hasn't played well for a long, long time. He looks completely ineffective and is being easily shackled by defences. One Premier League goal this season is a dire return.

Do you actually believe that Pep is happy because he's making space? I don't for one minute and see it as Pep trying to improve his confidence. His reaction to the missed chances last night summed it up.

Sorry mate I can't agree with the statement that he hasn't played well for a long time, his performances are fine he's just not putting the chances away, that needs to improve, there's no doubt about that but to say he hasn't played well is wrong imo.

I don't think he has played to anywhere near his level. He was good against Liverpool, Fulham and Shakhtar but his other performances this year have been well below standard.

He doesn't even strike me as a threat to opposition when he plays upfront, he seems so passive and lacks any conviction.

People saying hes no Aguero need to be a bit more realistic with their expectations, there is nobody available who is Aguero's level who would be happy to come here and play second fiddle. What you need is exactly what we have with Jesus.

A young player who works hard, never throws his toys out the pram or sulks and who carries on going even when things are not going well. Yeah he has missed a few chances but hes getting in the right positions and setting up his team mates. Has always struck me as a player who plays better when he gets a more prolonged run in the team, which he has not really had this season, so ill judge him after that.

Jesus has been decent at link-up/movement; but he's a striker - in to score goals - which he has failed to do as of late.

For that reason - I agree - he's not played well as of late - in spite of having numerous scoring opportunities.

Moreover, we're an elite club; IMO the best in world football at the moment. Our backup striker (especially since we're potentially grooming the backup to replace Aguero) needs to be far more clinical than Jesus is on current form.

Of course he needs to be more clinical, there's no debate there

How many on here regularly watched Aguero at Atletico at the age of 21? 2009/10 season for reference. I did, Jesus is better than he was at that age.

Fuck me this place never changes. It’s my opinion that Jesus is a poor player and should have scored two yesterday. I’m all for inconsistency but he’s been going backwards for months now

At the beginning of last season all the pundits were raving about the 3 young lions, Sterling, Jesus and Sane who were ripping defences to shreds. Aguero seemed to be relegated to 2nd string. Since Gabby's comeback from injury he has not been anywhere near his best and you need look no further than Pep's obvious decision to reinstate Aguero in to our first line S-A-S attack.
Everyone thought the Shakhtar match would be the start of a resurgence but you could clearly see the frustration on Pep's face during the Watford game at Gabby's missed chances. Of course, Pep would never publicly criticise a player (unlike the dog-fart across the city) so he praises Gabby's support play but he must be concerned about the lack of goals.

Funny, I could've sworn he did just that at the end of last season.
Agree.

Jesus doesn't just run about - that's ridiculous.

Jesus has good movement, links up well, and contributes on defense.

At the same time, he's in line to replace Aguero as our striker.

But for numerous games in a row - Jesus has had scoring opportunities - which he has failed to covert.

Jesus is a team player - without ego. And he's a fit for Pep's system - willing to contribute on defense, able to link up, deft on the ball...

But - bottom line - he's a striker; his job is to score, which he has failed to do on anything like a consistent basis for numerous games in a row.

One could claim, with some merit, that he nearly cost us 2 points in our last game v. Watford.

Jesus had several great opportunities to score, and yet again failed to do so.

Hes not good enough and regardless of how Pep tries to dress it up never will be. At some stage even the most optimistic amongst us will have to admit it. Hard to believe we have only one out and out top striker , not that long ago we had 4. Possibly a bigger more athletic type , just to give us sonething different could be an option.

Is there some similarity in the sort of things that we were saying about Raheem at this stage of last season ? That has worked out quite well...
Raheem always showed a lot of potential. He lacked confidence in front of goal, but his wing play/crossing compensated.

Though there is perhaps some similarity in terms of not being at top form... there is a differnce.

Raheem wasn't/isn't in our lineup with the primary job of being a scorer - Jesus is in our lineup with just that charge - score!

I admit that I was under the

I dmit that I was under the same impression when Raheem joined, I hope Jesus will prove me wrong as well.It is just that I do not see it coming despite his undeniable talent. Again, I hope he will make me eat my words and be capable of filing Aguero shoes in the future.

Highly likely he will , good grounding, already in the spotlight for Brazil and has the manager that will get the best out of him while he is with us.

you and optimistic don't belong in the same sentence ever.

That criticism could be levelled at the whole team, not just Jesus .

Some people have a different opinion to you, would you credit that, different people have different opinions. I've never heard the likes of it.

And other posters, myself included , disagree with you .
