Game of Thrones (season 8)

Arya did things on the way and was one storyline among several.
For me thats the key. In the earlier seasons the main charachters were scattered across the 7 kingdoms and travel, although clearly time passed, was broken by the way the episodes were structured and split between all the different stories. Now there is only 1 story. The main charachters are all together so its impossible to truely reflect time without dragging it out and having nothign to show between that isn't just white space.

Exactly my point. Unless people want scenes like the one between Arya and the Hound to be dragged out for hours, you're going to have time jumps.

Arya spent 5 seasons travelling. Then in season 7, long distance travel became almost instant.
Tyrion made it from Winterfell to Castle Black to Winterfell (again) to the Inn at the Crossroads in the space of three episodes in during the first season. Characters have always had jetpacks when it's been necessary.

The producers of The Last Kingdom directly addressed this point when it was made to them about their series, essentially shrugging and saying it was either compacted travel time or episodes of nothing happening, so deal with it. They're right too - and the way I always think of it is when people ask where the jetpacks come from to speed up the travel, I say they come from the same place all the music in every scene does. ;-)

Bit disappointed again in the latest episode. Can see they are going for shock value now and I believe a theory I have read will happen.

Tyrion and Varys will get killed in the next episode for advising Dany against attacking kings landing and after what happened in episode 4.

Dany and her army will start attacking kings landing however this time they will kill everyone in their way. Jon refuses to take part.

There will be a big scrap, Grey worm will fight Euron and get killed however Jaime will turn up and kill Euron.

Jaime will reject Cersei saying he loves Briane, Cersei will have him killed. The hound kills his brother and Arya kills Cersei.

Dany then sits on the throne and starts burning the people who reject her however Jon rejects her too, Jon somehow kills her.

Jon refuses the iron throne and takes the last dragon to go north of the wall and Bran ends up on the throne.

Yeah, I'd be fine with this turn of events.

More theorising.
After being forced to kill Daenerys, Jon rejects the throne as the theory suggests, and he goes to live on the Wall with Tormund and Ghost. I feel like they telegraphed that pretty clearly this week when Tormund said Jon had "the real North" in him.

That'll leave:
· Sansa to rule the North from Winterfell
· Gendry to rule the Stormlands from Storm's End
· Bronn to rule the Reach from Highgarden
· Robin Arryn to rule the Vale from the Eyrie
· Tyrion (if he survives, Davos if he doesn't) to rule the Westerlands from Casterly Rock
· The newly named Prince of Dorne (presumably someone from House Dalt) to rule Dorne from Sunspear
· Bran to rule the Crownlands from King's Landing
---
· Edmure Tully to rule the Riverlands from Riverrun
· Yara Greyjoy to rule the Iron Islands from Pyke

So the Iron Throne will be demolished, and the "Seven Kingdoms" council will be formed instead.

Even in Bernard Cornwell's books, a lot of travelling is done at light speed when needed.
