Game of Thrones (season 8)

I'm emotionally exhausted after watching that!

Best Scenes:

-Giant getting stabbed through the eye
- Dothraki lights going out
- Arya hiding in the library
- walkers breaking out of tombs in the crypt

I thought more BIG characters could have died. Arguably one of John/Daenarys, one of Sanza/Arya, Grey worm, Jamie, Brian??

Don't know where they go from here, the army is too small to take on Cersei right now?

Tiring episode to watch, not least because it was so dark and blurry (yes, I know the brightness can be turned up, but even then it was hard to see anything).

The good:

- The Donthraki 'lights out' scene
- The fact that Dany and Jon were largely sidelined and pretty useless, given that many expected them to carry the battle
- Ayra's Resident Evil-style scene in the library, and subsequent escape
- Scenes between Sansa and Tyrion
- People are complaining that we're left without a full explanation of who the NK was. Why do we need to know? Some things are best left a mystery
- The NK was really just a plot device and was never what GoT was about. I enjoyed that part of the story but I'm glad it's over and I think the writers are right to bring the story's end to Cersei/King's Landing. GoT was always at its best when it was about the people and the politics

The bad:

- I really don't like how they used that dramatic music for the climatic scene; the way it built up basically telegraphed that something big was about to happen. They did the same thing (it was similar music) with Cersei's destruction of the sept; just felt like 'epic' music for the sake of it. I think the NK death (and the sept destruction) would have been far more surprising and shocking without music
- But then, it's not like we didn't know how it was going to happen - "....and blue eyes". Quite a lot of what happened was a bit too predictable.
- Too many deus ex machinas, friends saving friends just in the nick of time. That started to grate a bit. It's one of the reasons why I feel GoT now seems more Marvel than old GoT

Good point. They are down to one injured dragon and pretty much all their forces were killed and the survivors are probably traumatised for life. I think there will be some more GOT backstabbing to come. Maybe Jaime will pretend to go back to Cersei and then kill her?

All I can say after trying to watch that is that the night is dark and full of indistinct images.

Extremely frustrating and actually piss poor on the part of the producers to allow that to go out. It seems like anyone who didn't have a Hollywood private cinema struggled somewhat. I'm still not entirely sure who lived and who didn't.

My tv had a real hard time with all the motion and darkness. Couldn’t tell wtf was going on.
how did she just sneak up on him like that? He had hundreds of dead there. Was a little anti climatic

personally thought she should of ripped her bran mask off, she is a many faced warrior after all....

Probably the best episode of a TV program I’ve watched, the music was epic and just added to it all.
i expected Arya to I’ll him as she is an assassin I thought she was fucked when he grabbed her but the knife drop was brilliant. How are they going to stop Cersei now I’m expecting a big battle in episode 5 and Bran has to step up, I take it will find out where he went with the crows later. I expected a few more major deaths but I guess they will come, just an brilliant episode.

Wow!
Not sure how they're going to beat Cersei without an army. At least 95% casualties in that battle.

Not sure how many dragons are left - if any. Is Rhaegal toast as well as Viserion? Come to that, how badly injured is Drogon?

Ayria dispatching a major adversary has been foreshadowed since season 3. I thought it was going to be Cersei, but no, it's the Night King.

Battle of the bastars was better

for lighting effects.
But after that this was brilliant. My death list was nearly pretty much spot on bar 2 and what a way to go.
House mormont is no more, jorah a fucking hero.
Few points,
setting up 7 series for a face off man to ice man between jon and the NK and then to have it never happen is top red herring material.
Arya is a fucking ninja.
And the hound stirred to life to protect his surrogate child
Did bran give her the blade as he knew the outcome all along?
The lanister brothers live to fight another day until bron kills them obviously ;-)
I think both dragons survived
I would worry about cersie, if the golden company are revealed to be as per the books and a major final twist.
9/10

Simply epic episode, probably the most epic episode of a TV show ever.

I can't believe it will now just focus on bringing the fight back to vs Cersei and Daeneres barely has an army left anyway. It will be really disappointing if they just ignore the best bit which has been the build up to the war with the dead in this and the last season. I really hope there is some side story going on that we all don't know about.

There are still a lot of questions without answers. What is going on with Bran and where did he go for the whole episode. How is the night king immune to fire and why didn't he just kill Jon like he killed Theon? Nothing makes sense.
She doesn’t need an army if she still has dragons and I read somewhere that both dragons made it

I agree with those who feel the show is not the same. In this season it is relying heavily on previous seasons to prop it up i.e. it has all led to this. The battle was to hollywood to be honest. Every star was in shot at one time in one kind of area, deaths and the lack of them was to convenient. We had 2 episodes of nostalgia, 2 of them. We did not need more in this battle. The hound freaking out at battle again. He should have simply been exhausted from killing then found the strength to fight more when he saw Arya.

There is a lot of lazy writing these days. The saving grace is it is mostly action now. Theon's death was shit. He fought like a lion then just for camera they have him charge the NK like a total novice. He should have stood his ground and had a few swings before getting outclassed in combat and dispatched. How did Arya get a clean run at the NK when there were literally hundreds of dead right there watching. To much of it has been made by some bumbling twat who doesn't get the source material and only thinks in "does it look cool". Also when the NK is walking up to Bran, if it had 1 more cutaway to the despair of the rest fighting in slomo i was going to scream, just get on with it ffs!

It does have some great parts though and overall it was a very good episode. The Young lady who is head of her house killing a dead giant, that was awesome! Arya generally was badass. The dead rising in the crypt was cool to.

I agree, I think it could be made into the best series ending ever if they expanded into the night king more and the whole stuff around Bran. You just can't help but wish there was more depth to it.

Winter is coming and the dead coming has been the big threat since the beginning but they finally came and then they were defeated within an hour and a bit...

Can't help but feel it was an anti-climax and the last 2 seasons of hype were a total waste of time. Obviously now it will focus on the war with Cersei but does anyone really care about that anymore?

Haven't the people got to be dead to create a disguise mask, you take off their face?
I expected she would have a mask from one of the army of the dead, perhaps she did to get so close to the Night King.

They should do that with the NK and Bran yeah, it would be damned interesting to see that. I agree with all you say, Cersei a bitch of a character sure but the NK was supposed to be beyond comprehension in his cause. Having him beat neatly in one episode feels a bit cheaty after, as you say, 2 seasons of building this up to be the battle to end all battles. It was not bad but they built it up to much maybe to a point that could never be reached.

One technical issue with the main battle is reference, battle is messy and confused, i get it but you need reference. So in say LOTR, in the battles you have a huge fuckoff tower or some sort of marker so when the camera shifts to another area of battle. You can get a mental map of who is where and doing what because you still see the marker in the scene no matter where you are in the fight. The darkness combined with little reference, the only real one being the lit up defensive wall. Even then we only see it from the perspective of Dani and John on their dragons. Make it hard to follow as a viewer.

I've seen it speculated that after this, everyone who refused to fight with/for Dany and a lot of Cersei's army is going to join the protagonists' side. Also to be fair, they still have 2 dragons, so they could basically kill everyone left in Westeros if they wanted.
