Garden Birds and wild birds thread.

Merlin likes killing squirrels so he is giving back, sort of
I should mention ( you prob already know....the Greatest..murderer of Song birds in this country is of course...the..domestic cat.Born Killers.
I'm glad Merlin is able to exercise such adroit hunting skills that it may catch Grey squirrels...I've always thought of them as tree rats !!
Nice bushy tail but has similar feeding habits to the Brown Rat...

There was a butchers in Shropshire that used to sell dressed squirrel as 'tree rabbit.'
I think I read that in Vietnam cat scoffing is on the rise.
I also think Kaz has a rabbit too.
Just sayin.

Just looking out of the window into the garden yesterday there was Gold Finches and Tits on the feeders a blackbird and a thrush underneath then a Wren and a Robin made a appearance on the fence, also got a lot of Sparrows that have made their home in a Bush in the garden over the last few years, and they seem to go into a frenzy when one of them goes into the Bird bath they all pile in

My grandson and I did the Garden Birdwatch last weekend and on top of the usual suspects (including a pair of nuthatches together, a couple of great spotted woodpeckers, pied wagtails and a cluster of long tailed tits) we had goldfinches and a tree creeper who's been around several times since Christmas shinning up our acer. We've also recently had blackcaps, reed buntings and a song thrush in now and again recently but they didn't show on the day.

Enjoyed reading that ..went all a bit Iggy pop in the end tho ; )

I like rabbit stew, or a young rabbit roasted with sage and onion stuffing.
Just seen a pair of kites wheeling. Great sight.
Almost plague proportions round here after the gamekeepers release the pheasants. The cars hit the pheasants and the kites come out to play. Quite sad in a way but the amount of kites feeding on the carrion can cause equally as many problems on the road.
