So it has been a while since I had to defend my boy from the mass borg. But have I missed something of late? Where is the thread hyping Barry to high heavens for the way he picked apart Airtricity and Inter Milan. This guy is looking like a young, sprite Pirlo, and yet no threads!!!

What is all this Milner talk I am hearing by the way. Barry this pre-season has cleaned the floor with every opposing team he has faced. I see him starting for England next summer at the Euros if he continues with this form.

It seems this season will be full of moaners again, coz I expect Barry to start a lot of games early on, until it gets cold and his age starts to show. Maybe then Milner can get a few games in big matches.

And that should start with the Charity Cup on Sunday

Just saying :D

Agree he has had a great pre season and an amazing game against Airtricity. I would start him on sunday but it all depends on how many attackers we play. If Tevez is still here and Aguero starting along with Balotelli he could miss out. But overall I don't see how anyone can say he dose not deserve to start.

Barry has been impressive this pre-season, but alas I still wouldn't select him ahead of VK & NDJ. It's reassuring to know we've got such an accomplished player as 1st reserve, I just hope every player at the club adopts a squad mentality & accepts that being benched at times is part of life at a club who are fighting on four fronts.

He might do well in the new 4-3-1-2 formation*.

With two durable athletes alongside him to share the pressing and covering, it looks like he is free to become more of a regista.

*if we persist with it... the diamond we played throughout last year's pre-season was never used in a competitive match.

I imagine he's not receiving any praise for picking apart Inter mainly due to the fact he didn't play?

Just saying :D

Sure about that?

Oh come on a short sub appearance is hardly pivotal lol. I don't mind Barry but the best work was done before he came on ;)

He's about the same age as Pirlo and just as slow :P

To be serious though, I think Barry is an under-appreciated footballer for the discerning football fan, he's composed in a way that few English midfielders are, he's Mr Reliable and I think he'll play a big role for us this season, he'll be an ever-present in Champions League games which will no doubt piss the Barry doubters off.
