Gareth Taylor sacked

Aoba? Is that you?

Gareth? Is that you?

See, if a joke is funny, it's worth repeating.

Only Chloe Kelly could stick up for Chloe Kelly, is the idea?

How peculiar.

I wish I could run the length of the pitch without getting out of breath. Or was being paid her salary. Wouldn't be having to work night shift either.

It's not particularly Chloe Kelly, I'd be sticking up for whichever time-served player was being misrepresented they way she is on here.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and perceive things slightly differently. I just don't think the level of criticism is fair. IMHO she hasn't been given enough chances to observe how "literally shit" she is. I will call out when she is poor, such as when she was put on at the end of the match at Stamford Bridge. She looked all over the place, but who knows where here head was at by that point.

Again, I would never come on here and repeatedly say someone was shit, but will say when I think someone is playing poorly. I have seen enough of Roord now to realise that she isn't the same player since coming back from injury, and I think she could do with being used more sparingly and subbed off sooner when she's having a poor match.

Same with Fujino, I was deeply unhappy with her at the start, but she has really come into her own. Again, my opinion only, but going back to the Stamford Bridge match, I think she was our best player that day running herself ragged all over the pitch.

Back on topic, but this sacking is exciting because (and I expect this is the management's thinking) things can't possibly get worse. Hopefully an uptick in morale, and a bit of fire in their bellies can get some wins out of this run and maybe rescue next years Champions League. Cushing is a safe pair of hands, that the previous version of the team highly respected, and they are more than capable of playing well, I think its all mental. As you say, the matches you remember, that get your bum off the seat are when we have wave after wave of attack, not endless passing from midfield to backline to goalie under pressure. Mix things up, confuse the opposition. Most now expect cities play to be slow and toothless, and plan their response around it. Catch them off guard!

Ha, Inspector Clouseau on the case.

Interesting posts is it? Imagine rooting around in the bins behind the forum and that's the best you could find.

Yes, you can be a blue and be new to the forum.
Yes, you can be a blue and not feel that spending your entire time online is a good use of your day.
Yes, you can be a blue and be critical of the atmosphere at the ground.
Yes, you can be a blue and find the away fan's singing funny. I must have missed the compulsory sense of humour removal operation when allocated my seat. They didn't invent it, but "Is this a library?" is just funny, isn't it? Better than "Where's your famous atmosphere" IMO.

I also find it embarrassing that they are able to sing that at us. I wish to god I wasn't one of the circa only 10 people in my stand trying to chant/sing.

There is a weird sort of symbiotic relationship between the crowd/atmosphere and the players. The better they play, the more excited the crowd are, the louder they are, the players feed of that. I wonder how much of the dead stadium stuff at present is down to the disappointing football. Chicken/egg situation. The players/manager can't possibly have been happy with how "present" the crowd were on Sunday.

The OSC try their best in their corner with the drum, but the rest of the stadium don't join in. They just sit there in silence, and it is very frustrating.

As the men's fans have managed, we should try to fight to shake off the stigma of a silent "emptihad" ground.

I don't know how we fix it, but something needs doing. I don't know if there needs to be more effort to try something other than the "9 claps - city - city - city - city" thing? Not sure a lot of the player based songs are successful either, with no-one outside the OSC seemingly knowing the words.

And re the Etihad, as I said the turn out for the Villa cup match was very poor, put that few people in the Etihad it would look and feel even worse. What's worse is, it would end up with way more United fans in. I was on the halfway line at the last derby, and when Toone kept scoring (first goals in 6 months, FFS) the cheers went up around me from all directions. Something needs doing about how they sell these tickets. It can't be hard to have one side city one side United, surely? Just sell two types of ticket on the site. Same applies to the women's FA Cup, why do they insist on selling final tickets all year before anyone knows who's in it. They wouldn't do that for the men's final so why do it for the women?
Is any of that about Gareth Taylor getting sacked, the subject of this thread ?

I Agree - I think the biggest thing Cushing gives in the short term is he is an excellent communicator. Players understand being left out if the bigger plan is explained - no-one likes to be not picked but if you have a happy environment and a winning culture that makes it more acceptable. Taylor clearly had a set way he wanted to play, with a set group of players. He failed to get the best out of the assets he had to choose from. I look closely at how our best have played in the last few games - Yui, Jill, Laia for example have all not been as good as we all know they can be. He didn't even give a chance to one of the most exciting young Japanese players - that was his way.

Ultimately we need to change the slow, risk adverse pass back mentality that Taylor installed in them - to have a free kick or throw in 30 yards from the opposition goal and within 2 actions have the ball back with our keeper is not the way to play when you have the quality forward players we have. You could see Viv trying to change that mentality during a game but it was drilled into them so much - I love possession football but there has to be a clear plan - tons of possession and a lack of goals is not great when you know we are a mistake away from conceding.

Cushing will brighten the mood and I think both Charlotte and Theresa know that is vital to give us any chance of splitting the 4 Chelsea - the way we have played in the last month tells me we would have struggled to win any of the next 4 games - so it is brave to do it now but I for one think it was the correct call.
Agree entirely about the playing style and the endless pissing about between the defence and goalie. But why give him a new contract and then sack him? Obviously an issue somewhere with old and new DoF.
I’d have given him to end of season and then make the change

Should have gone 2 years ago. Definitely should have been booted out after the arse game - settling for a draw before a ball is kicked. Title was there to be won - shit the bed instead.

The football has been dire, so fcuking boring to watch. Cushing did well in his time and played really entertaining football.

Anywho, 4 of us at Pride Park on Saturday. I feel more confident now.

I think Nils always knew he was going to leave and maybe that influenced the new contract. Theresa has a stronger record of being involved with teams that play above what is expected and anyone who has a winning mentality would suss out Taylor quickly. For me the best call was now while there is still lots to play for. It must be with an eye on next year too so it wouldn't surprise me if a manager is already lined up.

For those like the podcast ladies that don't understand the damage Taylor could have inflicted in the run in I think they are being naive - if Taylor had stayed maybe one or two of our better players would have been off - already Cushing has made a positive impression on the players. We have to look at the bigger picture and if we don't do well in these Chelsea games not panic - it's about looking forward with young exciting players that play fast and entertaining.

Hope you’re right a manager is lined up. Sacking a manager mid season is a decision that shouldn’t be made lightly especially by a big club like ours. Thinking back and given we lost on GD last year, a good summary of Taylor is that in the run in both us and Chelsea had to play a poor Bristol City team. We played our usual tippy tappy game until they tired at the end and we won 4-0 whereas Chelsea went for it from the kick off and won 8-0.
The point being with this and many other games that there is so much attacking potential in the team it shouldn’t matter if we concede the odd goal as we can score plenty if we want to.
Long live King Kev!!
