Gary Cook's job is to progress all the business aspects of this club and he has demonstrated a capability way in excess of all the amateurs employed by other clubs - including the Sky 4 clubs and in particularly Peter Kenyon who is a conference level player compared to GC

can't help it
from the moment he turned up with that easy, slightly kooky smile, and that sports jacket, he's always been a faintly agreeable presence, and the foot-in-mouth syndrome is something that only makes him more readily identifiable to me.
god forbid we end up with a kenyon clone with a huge knot in his tie and a stream of infinitely bland utterances, or another mackintosh, because his attempts to be invisible just made him appear insidious.
people who make mistakes are ok in my book. I tend to think it shows they aren't too worried about what other people think, that they aren't the type to pass up opportunities because of an overwhelming fear of failure and humiliation.
that's not to say I have him down as a saint or an idealist. he's capable of watching his back, someone who has the political skills to manipulate a situation to his own ends, and those are good traits to have in an executive.
i hope it's not lost on those there on the night that he's made the effort to attend several supporters meetings (along with Hughes who also deserves credit for having made himself available on several occasions).
i'm also somewhat confused by those who criticise him for appeasing/flattering the fans, pretending to be one of the people.. it seems to me what really upsets them is that he (intentionally or not) says something that the average fan doesn't agree with. when he questioned 'city-til-I-die', was it really because he didn't know what your average fan means when they sing it, or because, maybe he did, but he knew that meaning might not be apparent to outsiders? either he really is a million miles out of touch, a true buffoon, or he's a touch radical and not overly afraid of the status-quo or what people think. whilst the club continues to move forward, I'll continue to think he's the clever outsider.
so, yeah, chin up cookie-monster. my advice is, find a way to show the regret and humiliation you feel, but keep a sense of humour about it, cos that is the city way.
