Gender Neutral language

'Cisgendered' is essentially a way of saying someone who looks like a 'man' and feels like a 'man' and identifies as a 'man' on the inside. You 'identify' yourself as the gender you were assigned at birth. (Not my terminology btw, i'm merely highlighting the meaning.) To be clear it has nothing to do with sexual interest, so homosexual, bisexual etc aren't what is discussed here.

So a transwoman may have the body of a man, but the mind and personality of a woman, so she is transgender. There are men who look on the outside like men but on the 'inside' feel like either a man or a woman, it all depends on how they feel that day, which means they are genderfluid. People who do not feel to be either a man or a woman are called 'genderqueer'.

It all comes down to what is perceived makes a man a 'man' and what makes a woman a 'woman'. Can 'men' and 'women' be clearly defined? It's all to do with 'feelings'.... and that's where I jump ship.

So, if I am born a man, feel like a man, identify as a man, I am "cisgendered". Whats wrong with "male"?
BTW " cis" in latin means across. Seems to me, people are just making up crap.

That's pretty much the size of it according to University Gender Studies students. (I work with a lot of them so i'm exposed to these ideas pretty much every week)

You see, you can't be "born" male these days, doctors assign you as one because they see your baby penis. Looking like a 'man' has them saying "what is a man?" Can a man have long hair and wear make up, dresses and still have a beard? What if that same person does not consider themselves male OR female, but something different entirely?

Essentially the idea behind "cisgender identity" was to state that transgendered men and women were not made to feel different, so by introducing the term "cisgender" as an identity, it eradicated the idea that being "cis" was normal and that being trans was just as 'normal' of a human identity as cis. We didn't declare ourselves to be cisgender, it was designated for us by others.

Ah! Got it, I'm cis gendered so as not to hurt the feelings of trans people etc.
I am still male, a man, hairy arsed, and you will hurt my feelings if you call me anything else. See? (Laughs).

Isn't this just a variation of the theme or theory that gender isn't biological but is a social construct, and which now gets trotted out as fact to suit certain groups?

Wait until you discover the minefield that is "correct pronouns".

Oh yeah, get it wrong, even accidentally (because there are now hundreds we are all supposed to remember and recognise when we interact with people) that pressure is being placed on introducing "disciplinary measures" for those who use them in the wrong instance.
