If Scotland leaves the UK and comes to rely upon oil then seriously they are in for a whole world of pain. Oil is one of the most volatile and politically sensitive commodities there is.

If you understand the oil industry then you'll understand that sitting on any number of oil reserves is pointless. Oil has to be taken from the ground, refined and then sold as a final product. All of that comes at a cost.

The amount of oil under Scottish waters is therefore irrelevant, all that matters is whether those oil reserves are feasible and profitable which is driven by the cost it takes to get it of the ground against the oil price of the day.

The Saudi oil companies etc are major producers, Scotland is not. They could put Scotland out of business overnight because they can absorb low oil prices. We saw this immediately after the Scottish referendum when Saudi oil tankers were circling in the gulf because of high supply.

It would be utter stupidity to leave the UK.
That is a cracking summary of the oil argument.

My first election was 1979 and I have waited since then for a government that reflects my views. I wait on. 2017 gave me hope but as lots of posters have stated here Labour's Brexit position was untenable. They also said Corbyn was a problem.

The question now is what Johnson does with his majority. He owes his victory to the working class vote, will he improve their lives?

And all of that is presuming Scotland is entitled to 100% of it considering the cost the UK government has put in to extracting it so far.

I’m pleased Laura Piddick has lost her seat, she’s a smug twat who thought she was safe in Corbyns hard left bubble. Good riddance to her, pity Angela Raynor didn’t suffer the same fate.

He’s said this morning he won’t take it for granted, whether he does or not is another story.

You are obviously hard left and will probably never see the Government you cherish, the majority of people have voted many times not to elect an ultra socialist leadership. The left wing needs to be softened for the Labour Party to be elected again, even that won’t meet your expectations.

But they will .... Guaranteed trade deal with the Eu perhaps .... giving the Eu fuel security ?

It really isn't as simple as that. The EU were completely and utterly powerless when tens of thousands of jobs were lost in the oil industry 2015 and 2016 in Scotland and the same will happen again if the conditions that led to that are repeated. As he said, the Saudis and other major OPEC members could kill the industry off in Scotland if they start to over-produce at those levels again, and there will be fuck-all the EU can do about it.
