The proof’s in the pudding... Boris has “borrowed” votes from typically non-Tory voters... that won’t happen again so he either makes hay while the sun shines for 5 years or he lays the foundations for a longer stint...

I hope it’s the latter
If he does it right, if he’s a moral PM and honours the votes he’s got from these hundreds of thousands of people who Tories usually leave behind in society, he could finish Labour off and keep the Tories in for a generation.

The proof will indeed be in the pudding.

I too hope he does it right. This country needs investment in public services, the NHS railways and housing need sorting the fuck out, we need good deals around the world and with the EU, we need to end ridiculous things like Dementia Tax and Bedroom Tax or whatever ridiculous things the Tories usually think up, wages need to be fair for the poorest, tax breaks for the richest should not exist, we need to get a grip on immigration... I could go on forever...

We did need a majority govt. Hung parliaments just hold everything back and make a mockery the country’s politics. The govt will now be able to get things done.

But I do fear for the poorest on this island and do worry what the Tories will do because of their history as a party and because of their core support and backers being the most well-off section of society.

Let’s hope we are in the Politics Sub-forum in 2022 saying how they’ve honoured those lower class voters by sorting things out for everyone in this country and by investing in what was needed, and well.

Very eloquent... he has a real chance to break the mould and that would cement the Tories position for years....

We aren't. I'm a Celtic fan and I love England and the English, well most of them.
I’ve never had a problem from a single Scottish person for being English. Can’t say the same about the Welsh or the Irish, although I’m always made to feel welcome in both, especially Ireland.

I’ll be genuinely sad if the Union breaks up, but nothing lasts forever. Maybe it has run its course.

I’ve never voted Tory and didn’t vote Tory yesterday, but I want the best for this country. I’m not interested in the poisonous side of politics thats the norm these days, especially with social media, nor am I interested in the Britain’s Got Talent style personality-popularity politics that too many people have as their outlook (“scruffy Geography teacher” “scruffy toff” “big tits but deludedly enthusiastic”) but actually ignore the actual policies of politics.

Johnson has been backed by an electorate that could see him go down in history as a great if he honours them. It’s such a big opportunity for him!

Let’s just hope he does it, because if he does, he could make this non-Tory a Tory voter in the future. But if he doesn’t he could see me protesting outside #10 one day too.

It's been a long time since I lived in England and could vote and I haven't even followed UK politics closely in recent years. Corbyn seems to hate England & its traditions, he's aligned himself with some despicable groups and surrounded himself with people who are too stridently p.c. for my taste. But the Conservatives will never be the party of social justice for the poor or needy. So it would have been a tough choice for me.

Unlike the attacks on PL teams, mainly limited to one we all know, I thought the political media attempted hatchet jobs on everyone. The number of times I heard via the media that Boris was an inveterate liar and how Jezzer was another red under the bed, turned the entire campaign into the usual pantomime that British politics has become.
Tbf boris was called a homophobic racist and a liar, hoisted by his own word

We do need PR to come in.

Now I accept we lost as per the system and shit happens, but when you combine just the lib dem and labour vote share together it is the same at the conservatives yet the result of 13M vote for the tories gives 365 seats yet 10M and 3M for the labs and libs give out only 213 seats.

It also skews it as can be seen tonight with the protests in London, 13M out of 67M means this election won't stop the division in the country

PR or electoral reform will need to be looked at as the country is still divided.
FPTP is such a corrosive, divisive system.
