General transfer rumours

Now I know the world has gone mad. According to the BBC gossip page (source is Daily Mail) Crystal Palace are looking for £100m for Zaha. That has to be a joke.
Why would it be a joke? Look at it from their point of view. Without Zaha, they get relegated. With him, they stay up. How much money is PL football worth v Championship?

There was an interesting article last year about Sarri and his view on Rabiot (and PSG midfield).
https://onefootball.com/en/news/close-friend-reveals-why-maurizio-sarri-turned-dow
“The last time I was in Naples he told me that PSG were looking at him,” Brachi told Corriere della Sera.

“But that’s a club that isn’t for him. He told me ‘How can I coach a team that has a midfield of Rabiot, Verratti and Thiago Motta?

“They are players that don’t run. We’re talking about big players, but they don’t attack the spaces and run without the ball.”

So, my view on Rabiot ? Like a big majority of PSG fans, i couldn't stand Rabiot anymore. He was just infuriating.
First, because he misled the club into thinking he would renew while he was going for a signing on free move. The club was stupid to fall for the trap though.

Second, because he is just a dick. He sees himself as a box to box, number 8 type of player, while his best qualities shine in a number 6 position. Just this year in Champions League against Napoli, look at his attitude :

Look how slowly he tracks back (number 25) and doesn't even try to defend on the guy. That ultimately led to a goal:

Compare the difference of will between Allan here and Rabiot:

The guy walks with the ball, loses the ball and then takes a nap on the floor and doesn't seem willing to go back to defend.
This is the reason why PSG was after Allan. Rabiot is maybe more talented but he didn't put in effort.

It is no wonder PSG put Marquinhos in his position later on and felt more balanced. This is one of the big differences between the first legs of this CL group where we were dominated at Anfield and at home by Napoli and the return legs when we were better than both teams.

That being said, Rabiot can put some good/great performances if he has the right mindset. I think the move to Juventus will be good for him as he will grow as a man, be more professional (he was adept of parties, smoking shisha, enjoying "young women"). If he is pleased with Juventus, you'll get a good element. Not top midfielder but at least a good squad player. He was supposed to be the more talented heir of Matuidi at PSG. This can give you the bracket you can aim with him.

Edit: Another Adrien Rabiot trackback performance against Red Star Belgrade in CL.

Number 25, visibly unhappy as showed by his hands move and he decided to walk.

We know all about his attitude mate, remember who you signed him from. Proper problem.

Nah I was just sarcastic because the deal was closed months ago :)
I actually have no idea how he'll perform
Ramsey is a great player, technically skilled, good vision, not afraid to work, he'll improve PSG no end.

The bid for Zaha is a fucking embarrassment, if I was Palace I’d tell the Arse not to bother making another bid as I’d refuse to do business with them for the sheer audacity of the pathetic bid.

I know Palace are off their rocker in asking £100mil but come on, the guy is worth £70/80mil all day fucking long.

Arse should have at least made a bid of circa £55/60mil.
Palace aren't off their rocker mate, he's their star player, he keeps them in the PL and financially they're healthy, they've no need to sell. He's not worth £100m to City, but he is to Palace.

But they are prepared to sell him so using your logic they are ready to be relegated if they can stick £100m in their back pockets. Not sure I buy that logic as if they bank that amount every year if they stay up.

Anyway, going back to my original point, I think they sold him to the Rags for around 5m. He flopped at the swamp and they sold him for maybe 10m. He actually wasn’t good enough to play for the Rags and he’s not a better player now. So , even if with transfer inflation, there is no way he is a 100m player.

And there’s world class lesson in How to piss off a club that is one of the only willing sellers in a world where nobody sells because they don’t need the money. What an absolutely patertic bid from Arsenal. If I was the Palace board I’d be upping the asking price by £40 million just for Arsenal for that. It reminds me of the infamous £40 mill and a pound Suarez bid. A joke of an offer that doesn’t even begin to mask the “we tried” excuse they throw out without fail every season.
And I love the fact (if the press reports are true) that Arsenal want instalments on the £40m price. They might just be the worst players in the transfer market in the Premier League. They buy Ozil, Xhaka etc., and give away Ramsay. Someone there needs to get fired.

£100m buys them the player or players to replace Zaha. That's why that's the price.

I see that. But if if £100m gets you Zaha you don’t get a lot for £100m so they had better have a really good scouting team.

Liverpool built a contending team on the back of the Coutinho sale. Can Palace buy enough quality to survive (or prosper) on the back of a Zaha sale ?

Probably not and that's why they're asking for above his value to City.
