General Videogame Thread

The FTC have just announced they have approved Microsofts acquisition of Activision/Blizzard with The UK's CMA now saying they are ready to renegotiate the deal after originally blocking the deal

Bad news. I don't see the benefit for the end user here.

The console market is going to get fragmented because of this. The fragmentation will continue as well when Sony retaliate with some acquisitions of their own.

See EA have erling as the cover guy on their new “fifa”, EA make some very good sports games, I love the pga golf, sadly their attempts at a decent football game died about 20 yrs ago, a mix of fifa & pes could’ve made football perfection, ah well roll on Fri aug 11th :)

Doubt it. Warcraft is technically free to play but you have to pay a monthly subscription. Microsoft won't change that. You'll maybe get some in game items free but the biggest franchise is definitely Call Of Duty.

They will definitely be on game pass with Crash, Spryo, Tony Hawk's, Overwatch.

Also they have now got a massive foothold in the mobile gaming market as they will only King famous for Candy Crush
Don’t know about that mate, maybe incorporating it into Gamepass will encourage more people to use warcraft, also there have been demos of using a controller in game, so porting to Xbox is possible.

It is possible that game pass members would get free subscriptions on pc as memberships have been declining.

Think porting WOW to console would be a huge task although it could be done just like ESO.

I've played WOW with a controller. It was easy to setup( I used the Cursed Forge website) took a bit of time to get used to it but after a couple of hours it became really intuitive

I have never owned an Xbox and would probably jump ship to play WoW on console.
It's definitely possible. You can run WOW on a complete potato of a pc so getting on a Series X/S would be no problems. Plus you can plug a keyboard and mouse in those consoles. I used a controller for WOW on the Pc and the mapping was great, really easy to use BUT I still had to use a keyboard and mouse to communicate with other players and that could be a stcking point. Maybe some kind of Radial chat wheel?

If Microsoft think it'll benefit WOW I think they'll consider it. ESO is still really popular on Xbox and I would definitely go back to wow if it came on Xbox

Aside from Battlefield 4 I've never really been into shooting games. I'd never owned a COD game and Cold War was a free game on PlayStation this month so I went ahead. I'm pretty much just playing Zombies as I prefer the cooperative play as opposed to constantly getting popped by some kid over and over. Great fun, been surviving longer and longer and even enjoying a bit of solo play too.

Popped Hitman 3 on the series X out of boredom to find Freelancer Mode (I must have been living under a rock or something to not know about it) Fuck-in-hell its tough.

Son wants a PS5 from santa, and seeing as they are now widely available he can have one this year.
Just noticed that there is a price drop to £400 until august the 10th, but also rumours of a slim version in a few months time.
Is it worth buying a PS5 now while is cheaper, or waiting for the possibility of a slim. What if the slim version sells out in no time? Also read that the disk drive would be detachable and sold seperate?
What do you recommend to a casual, know nothing gamer?

I'd buy it now, there's no actual release date for the slim yet and it will cost a premium when it's out. Also it's worth getting the disc version as in the long run it's cheaper to buy second hand games from cex than download games. And you can always resell them when you've finished

Get one now, the slim will probably be around a similar price as the digital and then you’ll pay extra for a detachable disc drive, im even contemplating getting one now with that price drop. Only thing is whether there is going to be a Pro version, but it’s already 3 years since release and they reckon the PS6 could be put within 3-4 years.
