George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

Not a big student of history then I take it? How about something recent? The yellow vest protests in France started over Macron’s decision to bring in a diesel tax. Took Macron about two weeks before he ditched it and other related measures. But your right a few terse emails would have done the trick.

Again I thought it wasn't the protesters committing the violence, are they or aren't they? Protesting with violence about something that happened in the USA wont work in this country. Like the riots that happened in 2011 plod will visit in due time.

Why don’t you just move on? Is it that hard?

I accept your point of view and appreciate it. I have a different one. Why can’t you just appreciate mine whilst being in disagreement?

I respect your point of view, but will respectfully disagree.

Cheers.
I disagree with you. I'm assuming your point is that the cop would have treated a white suspect/felon in the same way, therefore it wasn't racial? I guess we'll never know, but in either case its casual murder and worth protesting about. The fact that it was a black man with all the history of racism attached to the US police makes it more incendiary, if not worse. As I said, I don't agree, and I think the casual disregard for life was informed by attitudes to race.
Having said that, I also respect your different view. For some people on here though it's not enough to agree to disagree and 'move on'. Their self worth is so invested in their opinions that they have to 'win' every debate. Doubly tragic, as usually the debates that are most interesting and worth having are the very ones which are impossible to 'win'. In their frustration, these people then become a sort of self appointed 'opinion police'. You have to be the one to move on - they can't because they are trapped.

With hindsight I probably should have.

You are just another in a line of people who disagree.

You’ve attempted to ridicule me in another thread.

I see you.

Hugely disappointing from the owner and moderator.

Thread ban me and fill your boots if you want the last say.
I really don’t care about the “last say” tbh. Feel free to continue posting in this thread if you like, just knock the absolute bullshit on the head.

Im not pushing it as a race or hate crime. I'm saying race is a factor. I can say that without accusing Chauvin of being a racist. I can see no other explanation for Chauvin's stance and behaviour whilst being filmed other than he thought he could act without consequence because Floyd was black. Chauvin might not have killed Floyd because he was black but he thought he would get away with it because he was black.

if im wrong a murdering scum bag cop gets mislabelled a racist but there is a chance for a positive change that you acknowledge needs to happen. By saying "actually guys your wrong Chauvin is just a scum bag so chill your outrage" you just pour salt into an open wound. And you do this based on no information just a desire to give the benefit of the doubt to a cop who may or may not be racist but definitely killed someone.

I'm not criticising your attempt to find some neutrality in this instance. I'm just not sure who benefits from it

At the very least he's a cold hearted killer, I suspect however and with good reason that he's more than likely a racist to boot.

Tell me what the bullshit is. Quantify that statement. I’dont care for who you are when you make a statement like that.

Fill your power trip ric, I’ve disagreed with the majority and that now constitutes ‘bullshit’

Fuck of man

It should be protested about. Black or white. It was absolutely casual murder.

But all lives matter. Not just black ones.

it's 'off' with two f's.

I’m somewhat ambivalent about that statue coming down.

Certainly, the malign relish with which it was brought down and trampled upon was unseemly - and many of the perpetrators are doubtless unsavoury characters, but it’s astonishing in this day and age that such a monument still resided in a major British city; especially one that’s relatively diverse and whose wealth was significantly built upon the disgusting bondage of slavery.

I’m always wary about imposing contemporary mores onto historical individuals, but there cannot have been a time in history where slavery, and the associated degradation and affront to human decency, was ever an acceptable thing to any right thinking person.

It’s certainly never been anything to celebrate, which is the ultimate purpose of a statue.

It’s not a power trip, I just think it’s bullshit that you point blank refuse to acknowledge that race was a factor in this case. To quote yourself, I see you.

So you disagree with me? That’s the top and bottom. Why are you, and others, trying to suppress your opinion onto mine with a view to changing it?

Who are you to do that? All day I’ve been polite, I’ve only responded when people personally insult me and call out my posting as ‘bullshit’ simply because they disagree.

That is not the way to moderate a forum. People should be allowed to speak openly without being insulted via name calling and by others attempting to adjust my opinion because it doesn’t fit their own.
