I think it's a pretty simple answer, which is that they've specifically asked to be called by that name. They re-registered their name with the UN (and probably other bodies too).
Most countries don't have a strong enough opinion to care about how they're referred to. The Turks are reportedly not a fan of the fact their anglicised name is associated with Christmas dinner.
