CDU in meltdown and the SPD ahead. Senior CDU figures and media supporters have been agitating last few years to get Merkel out so that they could ‘revive’ the party. Turns out, Merkel was the only thing keeping the party afloat.

I'd love our politics to be boring. Run by politicians who do their jobs effectively without the need of wanting to be a celebrity.

All down to the leaders. Scholz is seen as the natural successor to Merkel. SPD, Greens and FPD the likeliest coalition Govt at the moment.
