Gerry Marsden

RIP.
I used to love the song and it was often sang on the Kippax.
I used to work with a old Irish Utd fan who said they used to sing the original at OT after the Munich Air Disaster before Lpool adopted it as their own, not sure how true but he wasn’t a bull shitter!
I read that it was Celtic who first adopted it as a terrace song

Ferry Cross The Mersey should have been their anthem
Or, a very naughty version of it suggested by some wag from Birkenhead
skitting the scousers, ''Fairy 'cross the Mersey.''
Rip to Gerry, I could be wrong, and it may be the Beatles, but Gerry and the Pacemakers first 3 records all went to number 1, I think no one else had done that.
Having said that, I thought they were all shit.

Yes it was G&TP with 3 number 1's.
Beatles first single didnt make top 10
I think the Spice Girls or Westlife have since equalled or beat the record since.

Yes, you may be right, if I could be arsed I'd check ;)
'Love me Do' was their first hit, (it's also my favourite song of theirs) and
that got to, again not sure, No. 14.
3 on the trot is some achievement though.
