Get behind Pep and City for the last 9 league games.

Fans respond to imteresting football, raw aggression and determination.

passing football of sideways, sideways, back, sideways, up to the winger stand on the ball and pass back to the keeper, ignoring tge striker waiting on a through ball, keeper pass sideways, tgen sideways, back and repeat for 10 mins isn't inspiring anyone.

The problem isn't the possesion game, we have always played it, it's the lack of end profit and return to laboured sideways football, Mamoush mde at least 5 openings on sat that were ignored for a back pass, Haaland has made countless ones over the season, the lack of drive from some players to give and go and to instead play safe and pass back has frustrated many.

Entertain and you will be cheered amd engaged with, bore people and they will zone out and chat amongst themselves, that is the simple crux of it, rightly or wrongly.
In general this season that’s a pretty fair observation. However, on Saturday i don’t think that was the case. I thought it was a very good game against a good athletic side. We did go for it and it nearly cost us at the end on the counter. No complaints about that as we tried to get the 3 points. Our short comings got exposed and always will until we get more players in. I thought we kept going well though overall.

The atmosphere was terrible but the club have brought that on themselves by losing so many fans due to greed. I don’t think prime Messi would improve it too much now.

I agree with you there, the Metrolink resembles the Shanghai express on every match day.

There are thousands wearing half/half scarfs and taking selfies who invariably leave well before the end.

I am fortunate that I am surrounded by regulars on league match days, but come an FA Cup game there are hundreds I have never seen before.

I still am of the opinion though that watch we are watching on the field of play has a lot to do with the less than great atmosphere.

Yeah. Sat we played some forward thinking stuff, but it was sporadic, and I don't think the atmosphere was solely down to that game.
I think a season where standards have dropped and we have plodded has culminated in this end of season apathy, as I have said in thhe squad building thread the front 4 on sat coupled with rodri back, Echeverri hopefully up to speed a new attackig midfilder and some fullbacks and I see an exciting season ahead next year, one I think the fans will go into with refreshed excitement.

Yeah, it certainly wouldn’t do any harm. I just think in general though the way football has gone at the top level of English football that great atmospheres are almost a thing of past apart from in the odd huge game. We obviously talk about our atmosphere on here but the rest of the league is pretty much all shite too.

It’s reached the point where if most of the ground sings about 3 songs during a match it gets lauded as a great atmosphere.

Completely spot on. And for those thinking teams come and park 11 behind the ball, it's because they have time to.

I think you have a point BUT we ignore the contribution of teams who endlessly sit eleven behind the ball, deep, and hope for one counter-attack to win the game. Partly as a result of our success, the league has become tactically led, and many teams are ultra-defensive. I don't think your second paragraph is reflective of that, but we do need to find another way to play that does not allow teams to get set into this ultra-rigidity.

Brighton didn't play like that and the atmosphere was still dire, in fact very nervous every time Brighton had possession.
Even if teams play with a 10 man defence it shouldn't preclude an atmosphere.

Another point, not directed at you, but even if there are 7000 tourists it shouldn't stop the other 45000.

Saturday at least near me the only noise came from dissenting voices.

I think it’s just the inevitability of what is likely to happen in games now. Even though we went ahead twice, I always felt like we wouldn’t win and we would have a fuck up in us. Proved once again to be the case and I think it’s having a knock on effect on the fans

The United game is key. I dread to think what the atmosphere will be like if we lose that.
