Great Scott! Manchester City's Sinclair has a rib removed in bid to solve blood-clotting problem
22 May 2013 22:31
Midfielder banned from full training for three months after surgeons take out bone that was pressing on a vein and affecting his shoulder

Blood-clot victim Scott Sinclair has had a rib removed and been told he cannot train fully for at least three months.

The Manchester City midfielder missed the end of the season after suffering the clot on his shoulder.

MirrorSport understands the star had to have his top rib removed as it was pushing on a vein sparking the clot.

Ex-Chelsea trainee Sinclair, 24, is now on the blood-thinning drug warfarin* for 12 weeks, has been told to take aspirin daily after that to continue to help.

Once he recovers fully from surgery, doctors will allow Sinclair to return to training at the Eastlands club for drills and fitness.

But he is not allowed to play any contact football in case he is injured, and suffers heavy bleeding.

He will be reassessed in August and only allowed to return to full contact training when his blood clotting is back to acceptable levels.

Sinclair’s pals are confident the £50,000-a-week winger, who was taken ill in training on May 3, will make a full recovery, but it is another blow to the star, who only made two league starts for City after his switch last summer from Swansea.

Sinclair is likely to be loaned out later this year if he remains out of the picture at City, despite Roberto Mancini being sacked as boss.

Aston Villa and Everton were both previously interested in taking him on loan before his health scare.

* Warfarin is prescribed to prevent blood clots, but can increase the risk of dangerous bleeding as it thins the blood.

Get well soon Scott.

Re: Scott Sinclair

I'll second this.

He may not have been quite in the class we are looking for, but sometimes players can go to another level against the odds. He seems like a thoroughly decent guy and it's a shame Mancini decided he wouldn't give him any chance at all to show his worth.

Good luck Scott.

Jeez, guys not had much luck this year has he? If we're using wingers under the new manager I think he'll surprise a good few people when he's up & running again(so to speak). In the few appearances he's made for us he's always had at least one pop at goal, I think he could indeed prove a good buy in the end.

Don't think he's good enough for what we need but was lots of times he could have been given a chance to prove himself. Hope he gets well soon and pellers at least lets him have a go.
