Did I mention I'd been on Eggheads?
Couldn't think of a better title.....

i am planning on going to New York on Friday from Tampa and there was a flight with Delta for $230 (single) to JFK.

I then looked at flights to Philadelphia (and then a bus or train onto NYC) and found a Delta flight for $127 that I would have to change at JFK to catch another flight to Philly.
This is the same flight that costs $230 from Tampa just to JFK!

So can I buy the ticket to Philly and instead of changing at JFK I simply get off at JFK and leave the airport, forfeiting the onward flight to Philly? I will only have a small carry on bag.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you hold the correct visa for the country.

Officially, depends on the airline(s) but usually no.

Unofficially, yes. As per SF, don't do this on a return trip as the return would get cancelled.

Could only be a problem if you have booked a return flight
Correct. Any return flight would be forfeited as you'd have missed out one of the legs. But as this is a one-way ticket, there's nothing to physically stop you leaving the plane early.

Technically, the airline could chase you for the full fare or even blacklist you if you're a repeat offender (this scenario will be covered in their T&Cs), but they're extremely unlikely to do so given the relatively small sums involved.

I shouldn't bother. Morrissey will be cancelling the gig at the last minute anyway ;-)
