getting to the bottom of small cup crowds

play the games when I dont work I also work 3 weekends in 4 and have to do a lot of juggling with my shifts asking for swops or taking a days holiday wont do it for cup game as I dont want to piss to many workmates off when I need favours just to get to league games

I think there is a mixture of things really.

1. Money & Structure...there should probably be more structure in ticketing and pricing for cup games, there should be points and other incentives, discounts on group bookings and reward type points to spend on other games or merchandise in the club shop. A loyalty rating should perhaps be gained which (independent of ST points) provides a basis for a pecking order for cup tickets in later rounds....ie. people who attend most cup games get first choice on tickets for later rounds....this should be renewed each year.

2. Style of Football....often the cup games have been drab affairs, easier to get fans to attend if you can guarantee the atmosphere of say both cup games versus the rags last season.....I genuinely had a tear in my eye at the home leg of the worthless...all those former blues there etc etc..

3. Time....people lead busy lives these days, between work, socialising, and children many fans can't fit in attendance at all home cup games and league games.

just my 2p

for me personally..

1. I travel from London (I am an exile Manc who has just moved because of work) which means it costs me £45 each time to see us play at home

2. Many of the cup games are mid week which means me taking leave from work (and I am running out of leave)

3. Games during the week mean I have to stay over as the last train is usually before the end of kick off

In regards to number 1 with a seperate cup loyalty scheme, how exactly do you think this would be fair? Corporates or any rich businessmen could simply pay the £15 for Notts as well as all the other cheap cup games and not bother going. People like this could then possibly have more loyalty points than a season ticket holder of 10 years who went to maybe half of the cup games due to money.

So if we got to a final moneymen who have simply flashed the cash for 4/5 FA Cup games (they dont even have to attend) have a better chance of a final ticket opposed to a season ticket holder than attends 2/3 of the games.

Wouldn't be fair.

too many games costing too much money in a recession with other living costs and taxation spiralling

especially if the easy option can be taken to watch it on TV for nowt

Can't be arsed unless it really matters or the opposition is of major standing.

Juventus - eg.

that's fair enough,done it myself
just wish more would be more honest like this!
20'000 missing sunday and quite a lot will be in the can't be arsed camp.
there will of course many genuine reasons for not going, so be it that's the way it is.
the crowd sunday was standard for city v that type of opposition.
we would need years of success to have the sold out signs similar to utd, arse, chavski etc in the lower cup games

I am really struggling with the situation here - you've both got thousands of posts on a City fans' forum yet you still have a "can't be arsed" attitude at times.

Not being judgemental, just don't get it at all.

Full house for cup games against the likes of Notts County? You'll need at least 25000 'spectators' plus our hard core for that, and they wont come till the trophies and world wide publicity is consistent. Then we will probably whinge about the tourists getting in our way with their cameras etc and having no atmosphere at the ground. Ring a bell?

After an hard week at work theirs nothing better than having a day out at the football regardless of the opposition. I went to watch Lancaster v Chester last night cost £8 to get in I bet their wasn't more than 60 people in the ground but it still beats watching eastenders. Tbh I think i was reading this site more than I was watching the game it was that shite.
