I think we are thinking short term and reason for that is Pep is gone in 2 seasons. I genuinely think Pep wants another Champions league. Donnarumma is up and down in the league but for a big Champions league knockout game you want him in net saved PSG multiple times on their way to winning it.

Same with Rodrygo multiple Champions league winning player, turns up in the big games. I think this is Peps all in to win another champions league before he leaves.

I still think if this rebuild reinvigorates Pep we could see another extension.

The complete 180 stylistic approach to goalkeeping going from Ederson/Ortega to Dunna/Trafford (and it'll happen after the season starts!) is endlessly fascinating to me.
Not a complete 180, Trafford is closer to Ederson and Ortega than Donnarumma. We'll have 2 different keepers. Can't get my head round it personnaly but whatever, sure we have a plan.

His performance v Arsenal was right up there. Big game player.

I think it’s exciting! Pep always looks to tweak his game plan whilst getting the players to learn new roles.

I think it’s because of teams like Villa, Palace and Arsenal becoming “set piece merchants” and reverting to big sam tactics since the start of last season . I don’t think a goalkeeper like Ederson is a good fit for the league now.

I will mention it before someone else does. Donnarumma is not known for being commanding in the air despite his size

Why, Ederson is apparently better in aerial challenges than Donnarumma.

donnaruma is good but not that good, he just had an excellent last few months. he can be a very good shot stopper at times but otherwise his goalkeeping game is lacking, specially as a pep keeper. still remember that game he had against madrid a few years ago, in panic mode the entire game. keep eddy for one more season and give trafford the cup games + a few league games here and there, with the season he had last year i am confident he will do well for us. he also doesnt add to the foreign player quota, donnaruma on the other hand will take a valuable foreign spot and huge wage + transfer fee which if his signing doesnt work out will become a big problem in future

If he’s not a Pep keeper, why are we so interested?

There was a post on here listing all the individual awards the kid has won over the years. I’d suggest you read it.
