You rate Trafford, and so do I, but if City sell Ederson, I would prefer to have a more experienced keeper for games vs Arsenal etc. I don't think there are many keepers <=22 years old in the Premier League and this is for a reason. It is an unnecessary risk.
Last time we bought a 23 year-old keeper, we won the league.

We can’t rely on Trafford yet, if he’s good enough he’ll slowly bloom into a great keeper with the experience he’ll get from playing in big games in the League and FA cups with the odd CL game against overmatched opponents thrown in.

If Paris want anything less than £50m for Dona we should snap their hand off, bid a fond farewell to Eddie and Ortega and sit back happy in the knowledge that we’ve got the best goalkeeping roster in the league.

Trafford is 22, donnarumma is 26. If we do end up signing donnarumma it just means it will push Traffords being #1 a couple of years back. I imagine he thought he was going to be #1 next year after ederson leaves, but if donnarumma comes then I imagine we sign him to a 4 year contract and then anticipate selling him in his final year, since his renewal will probably be astronomical

Yep Amorim publicly kicked Onona out the door with what he said 3rd choice! So they’ll pay Donna what he wants
Seemingly zero interest in Onana, they can’t afford to have four senior keepers and can’t see any situation where Donnarumma goes to a team that just about avoided relegation last year. He’s in his absolute prime.

He will force a move to Italy on deadline day if we haven’t signed him just to keep his national team place.

We currently happen to have 4 senior keepers. They would find a last minute loan or sale of Onana if it came to it.

But agree though, it would be some step down for Donnarumma, and that's the reason this is unlikely. Players do seem to overlook things to go there, but his level is different to other players they have signed.

I feel more of a market for Ortega than Onana but seemingly little news around him also which is a concern and a surprise.

Yeah, surprised how quiet that is tbf, nobody really pushing any rumours. Not his entourage, not the club, not other clubs, not even click-bait early guessers.

Imagine once the Ederson situation is clear something might come out, but he needs a move away regardless I would think.

They are all older than Ederson.
Garcia is 24, he’s an incredible keeper even at that age.

And the instruction was ‘name three better keepers’, they’re all better than Donnarumma and a keeper’s prime is 30-35 so it’s not like they’re past it so their age was taken into account.

*Sigh* I knew someone would be unhappy about this and think I am slighting Phil.

That wasn't at all the what it was about. FFS. I think the point I was trying to make was relatively clear. You just reinforced it.

No issues with you directly. You seem like a good person, by the way.
To be fair my Phil comment was the last point I made and the entire rest of my post was directly about what you’re talking about. No worries!

Wasn’t Ederson 23 when he signed and became our first choice keeper?
