Giddy signings

I was lucky enough to be at Stoke that day & remember a song about Francis being better than Birtles (utd had recently signed him) mind you thats not saying much, I think I was better than Gary Birtles,

The way Clough and Taylor got basically ordinary players to play way above their level for a while was a form of sorcery.

SWP without a doubt.

I've never been more gutted than when he left and never been as giddy or happy as when he re signed.

He was our's and we was coming home when we were still crap & had no money (although that changed a day after his debut)

As over the top excited as i am for Haaland, nothing will ever top that feeling from a sigining point of view for me

Bell, Lee, Francis, Dzeko, Haaland.
Bell was an interesting one. He had a decent rep, but was very young and playing in Div2. But, when I saw how excited uncle Joe was, it rubbed off on me.
About a year before we signed Haaland, I posted that we would not even bid for him because his wages would knock our structure. Yet here we are: very excited, can’t wait. Might turn out to be our greatest ever capture.

I remember us paying £8m for Gareth Barry and thinking that we were now attracting decent players.

I mean... Even looking back that was a steal.
Gareth turned down Liverpool the season before for an added bonus.
Mendy was the one for me.Looked liked we had signed one of the best at the time.
Looked the part until that injury.Mental how it has worked out.

Not a signing but winning at CAS was so nerve wracking waiting for the result and the elation thereafter. Losing that would have severely impacted us going forward

Signing on the right lawyers was a great piece of business

Back in the 70s Dave Watson possibly the hardest player ever to wear a City shirt, parternership with Mike Doyle stuff of legends. Thought he was fantastic at Sunderland delighted when he signed for us.

Remember being 14-years-old on a campsite in Wales, hearing the news that we'd signed Shauny back from Chelsea.

Jumped out the car - where I'd spent most of the afternoon because it was a campsite in the days before smartphones and there was fuck all to do - and ran around in circles for 10 minutes straight, screaming "Shauny Wright Wright Wright" over and over.

Seem to remember it was the same week we beat Midtjylland on penalties.

All City fans were extremely excited when he signed for us, the problem was keeping him fit. The club wouldn't tell the press if he was injured because when he didn't play, it would take a few thousand off the gate.

I always loved wingers so players like Rick Holden Martin Petrov Peter Beagrie always excited when they got on the ball, I always thought if the left back overlapped Petrov he's be in the stands

Watson came more than a year after Dennis Tueart but, all things considered, that's probably the most brilliant double signing that City did until the coming of David Silva and Yaya.
When I look at the quality in it, that seventies team really should have won more titles.

Very true, I just about remember Ian Bowyer getting stick from the city fans at Maine Road for not being very good yet amazingly he went onto win loads of stuff at Forest including two european cups!,
I always say clough was the best manager I ever remember because of what he achieved at a relatively small club like Forest.
