Has anyone one here ever done a gig either in the Europe or the U.S?

Me and the wife fancy doing one so I'm wondering whether it's easy enough to get hold of tickets. Also is there a decent site knocking about that lists all the upcoming tours for bands/artists or is it better to check actual websites for said bands/artists?

If anyone has any experience of doing a gig outside of the uk, who did you see and where?

It's been a dream of mine for a while to see Iron Maiden abroad, either in North America or, better still, South America. I was hoping to catch them in Canada in a few weeks but, alas, they finish up there just before I head over.

I did once go to a gig in Naples back in 2002 - a sort of communist rap/funk/rock group called 99 Posse. That was an experience!

Seen a few bands abroad. The US, Canada and Europe. In my experience it's always best to use official sites. A lot of places in Europe provide free transport to and from the venue. Saw Depeche Mode in Antwerp and the tram/ metro trip was part of the ticket price.

Saw Guns n Roses in Vienna last week at the Ernst Happel Stadion. Scene of a famous City victory!

I saw Robert Plant and Alison Kraus in Paris with Mrs S. Tickets easier to get than in the U.K. Brilliant gig, the band was lead by TBone burnett who was mighty impressive. The venue was stunning, an old Art Deco cinema converted to a music venue. The strange thing though was, when we showed our tickets at the entrance, we were escorted to our seats by a very pleasant young lady who then demand a tip of 5€ as it was'the custom'. Fair enough I stumped up. However another bunch of brits just in front of us refused and we're almost ejected for their troubles. They eventually stumped up. Other than that, great concert, great venue and Paris.. what's not to like!

Seen a few in the US and Europe, tickets are easy enough to get hold of, just keep an eye on websites of bands you want to see, or even fan sites - sometimes they have fan sales in advance of official dates.

Best was Journey at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco in 2003. The trip to California was a great bonus!

Cheapest way of doing it. We went to see Faithless at Palais 12 in Brussels for half the price of the UK tickets and managed to get the winter markets in as well. Bought the tickets direct from the venue and they were delivered electronically so no pissing about there.

I saw Noel Gallagher in Munich after I moved to Austria, and will be watching the Stones in Zurich this summer. Admittedly, both places are only a short train ride from Austria, but they're still abroad!

I forgot to mention Franz Ferdinand in Glasgow while I was living in Germany.

Also forgot: always get the tickets from official sources!

Replies are positive so far, cheers.

Wasn't sure how easy it would be to get tickets but from the replies so far it's easy enough and in some cases cheaper.

City in Europe is getting binned off so we're going to do more gigs abroad as an alternative to seeing new places.

Depeche Mode in Antwerp sounds right up my street. Few days drinking Belgian beer and watching a decent band whilst there, quality.

Before I moved to the states I followed Morrissey around in the states and in Europe too.
Tickets you just bought online and either printed them off at home or collected at the venue on the night. Never had an issue. Great way to see loads of places, especially following Morrissey as you had to find alternative things to do when he cancelled the gig!

Haha. Seen Mozzer a few times in the UK. He's never cancelled but walked off stage once in Liverpool.

I go to gigs all the time here in the States and also manage 2-3 a year back in the UK when I'm there. By and large, the experience is the same. As someone already mentioned, a good way to see some new places. I tend to be into more esoteric kind of stuff, not arena/ stadium gigs, so some of the smaller venues can be in dodgy parts of town. Saw The Fall years ago in Atlanta at a club seemingly in the middle of an industrial estate and had to walk for an hour back to the hotel at 2am through some 'interesting' places and just the other week saw Boss Hog at a club in Detroit that was firmly in the 'hood.

Done a good few in Europe and in the US .... though US ones were ones we had found were on once we were there. And recently booked to see the Dan Reed Network in Madrid this November. Was easy to just go on the venue's website and book tickets. They are e-tickets, so just print them off yourself, and no hassle of getting them through the post ...

Went to see U2 in Rome last weekend. Killed two birds with one stone, visited a beautiful city I had never been to and saw a great gig will be definitely doing it again in the future.
