Glad Clichy Appears Okay

Well I understand the point being made that concussions CAN be serious but I do have medical training and work in a medical environment and I judge head injuries around being knocked out or not, if you're ko'd you get scanned and observed if you just went a bit dizzy, crack on fella at your discretion! Oh and an a similar note, if someone with concussion wants to sleep, let them it's an old wives tale that they must be kept awake!!

Honestly, I think the City medical staff needs its collective heads examined-pun intended. Clichy was clearly CONCUSSED and they put him back into a bullshit practcie game. I dont understand what the hell they were thinking....
Totally agree Frank. Clichy's legs buckled as a direct consequence of the head injury. He should have been carried off and put monitored in line with concussion.
This lack of professionalism from the City medical staff is FAR MORE SERIOUS than Balo's backheel.

Didn't see a thread about it. That was a nervous moment with the head-to-head collision. Glad he's okay or at least okay enough to see out the half.

yup and looks to be pretty quick also - decent signing
Indeed. I think he and Savic are good additions. My only concern now is adding a bit more to attack which is easily solved if we sign Aguero (and hopefully Nasri.) Suarez also looked really nice today in limited action.

One thing that occurs to me is if Clichy has a head injury, he might not be able to fly back with the team right away.
By far the greater lack of professionalism in the Galaxy match was committed by the medical team.
Clichy's legs buckled following his head injury. He should have been carried off the pitch and medically observed for concussion. The lack of protocol was negligent and we can all count ourselves fortunate that Clichy recovered.
I commend the manager's attention to detail in all matters and I can only hope that behind closed doors someone got a right bollocking for this.

-- Tue Jul 26, 2011 12:19 pm --

No, I can tell if someone has been concussed pal and thats from the school of hard knocks! I boxed and have been around the boxing business a good portion of my adult life. On some level Clichy suffered a concussion. Due to the knock of heads his brain slammed into his cranium and thats why he did the rubber leg thingy when he tried to get up.

Now, the sports community is JUST BEGINING to learn about the long term effects of these types of brain injuries. It has mostly to due with that pansy sport of Yank football-well they have padding so it doesnt hurt! But we are seeing these types of injuries in Ice Hockey as well. They must be pansies as well coz they wear padding and helmets as well!!!

The fact that the game was a bullshit practise game makes the decision even worse. BTW I wonder whose decision was it anyway???

The long term effects are irrelevant unless you suggest we shouldn't play him again for another 20 years?

At the risk of repeating myself the current advice by people who spend their lives looking at these things, including the American Neurological Association, is following an examination by a medical professional you may return to the field of play.

This may end up in years to come the wrong advice but for now it isn't, the advice was followed and Clichy was ok therefore i conclude it was the correct decision, furthermore nobody was holding a gun Clichy's head so I'm pretty sure if he didn't want to go back on he wouldn't.
...Clichy in NO WAY should have been allowed to continue. This was medical negligence ......lawyer alert!!

letting him go back on ranks far beyond sending Paul Lake home from America in economy class after his knee op, and in this case a second knock on the head could have been a lot more serious. You don't have to be a neurosurgeon to know that was a totally unneccessary risk.
I'm not surprised that there are people on here who think a quick chat on the sideline was enough to give the all-clear but I am stunned that highly paid, highly qualified professional medical staff could do that in this day and age. Another vote for 'gross incompetence' here.

the dizziness and weakness is almost always a reaction from the CNS and cardio. in itself it's not evidence that the brain is temporarily incapacitated. in order to determine that, they check pupil size, vision, awareness of surroundings and ability to follow commands.

Rather than the concussion,my main concern would have been for a potential spinal injury, given the force of the challenge, the position of his body and the subsequent impact of his head on the ground,he should certainly have been placed in full immobilisation on a spinal board until any possble injury had been ruled out,i did not even see evidence of any check while he lay injured - poor protocol all round.

The long term effects are only irrelevant if you are seriously suggesting that we only have a duty to these men as players and not as human beings. If that is the case, that is a very heartless way of looking at professional athletes. Dead American football players and hockey players are having their brains looked at each day and more and more are being found to have CTE. Now scientists and doctors are not 100% sure of the relationship between CTE and concussions but all the tell tale signs are there to say that there is a causal relationship between the two.
