Goalkeeper situation summer 25

Think we should go for Trafford he has matured now been through a bit of a rough patch come through it and now looking top quality ! he has always had that Ederson confidence about him passing out from the back is good better than Ortega long pinpoint kicks are good! No one will be as good if ever as Ederson is so if he want to go to Saudi think Trafford is a good option than someone coming from another league

Don't know if you're old fashioned or not but Bravo was probably more highly rated than Ederson was at the time of purchase though he was older, which is not to say that clean sheets in the Championship is the right metric to evaluate a 'keeper, but if the underlying numbers are good I don't see that buying an up and coming 'keeper is a bad thing rather than an established 'keeper.
 
Is there any other keeper that can pass like Eddy and is cold blooded when being pressed? If we do look to get someone else in, we have to look for those attributes - I like Ortega, but the difference in passing is substantial.
 
I think Costa makes sense we always have scouts in Portugal and he's played top level football.

Another thats been reported and sounds good is Lucas Chevalier. Like when we got Eddie routing a great player thats played first team football in Europe.

Can see Eddie going, his time is up/Saudi money. But Ortega will want and probably has been told (in contract talks) if he goes he'll be our 1st choice.
 
I don’t know how good Costa is but in Serie A there’s a club named Parma and they have at least 2 players City should look out for while one being their goalkeeper. Feel like if it’s not Spanish players it’s Portuguese players we look for due to Pep and Viana Even though there are better players out there with a different nationality. A half Japanese as our Number1 probably isn’t as interesting as a Portuguese.
 
The pass pass at the back to then draw in the opposition is not a viable tactic as the other team doesnt do this anymore. Eddy is IMO therefore less valuable to the team now for this

His actual goalkeeping is pretty shit. Compare him to Raya or Martinez to name 2 and its embarrassing for us. Last night was classic Eddy - you cant really blame him for the third goal but a lot of other keepers save that

But on his day his shot stopping is great. Look at the first leg against Madrid, he was brilliant up until the last 5 mins. He's a great goalkeeper all round in my opinion.

i think you are seeing what you want to see. compare him to Courtois ffs

he parried a fairly standard shot straight to brahim dias to score and yes he can make saves but they tend to be straight at him type ones based on his one on one schemiechel type starfishing.

he isnt atheltic in fact i think he could lose weight. he also doesnt want to be here. if you shoot on the ground to his left or right he struggles

Time for you to put some gloves on and do a better job then.

In all seriousness he's a great keeper and he's had some great years here. Like every player he can make mistakes especially when he plays with such high risk.

Like I said, before the last 2 goals which includes Diaz's, he was playing great and would have conceded more if it wasn't for his shot stopping.

He was a great keeper and had had great years here.
I'm not sure if he's declining or is it the defence that is letting him down
Whatever it is, he is currently not at the standard set by he likes of Courtois and that is where our keepers need to be.

He’s been here 8 years and thats enough. he’s past his best I would trust you agree on that and therefore why would we not look for a replacement. also he expressed a desire to leave vocalised by his wife

Eddie's head hasn't been on straight this season and I feel he's sort of just now rounding in. Kind of harsh to judge him based on the Arse performance bookended by Real not to mention our form November through just lately didn't exactly give him a place to shine. The whole summer departure then back thing I think started it and clearly something was going on with the sitting for multiple matches.

I'd like to see him at least one more season I don't think there's anyone better all around.
 
Time to be ruthless and move players on when they start showing signs of decline and not wait until the decline plays out. Lessons of the last 2 years to be learnt and sadly Eddie should go on this basis. What a player he has been for us though.

Not being smart but who is your go to as #1... and will Ortega be willing to play backup?
