Me and a mate were talking the other day about covers that were better than the original. We came up with these two:

Any other good ones?

Hendrix outdid an already amazing tune.

I prefer Jackson's version of this to the already superb original. His voice, for a child was astonishing.

Also The Animal's House of the Rising Sun, another Dylan cover. Even though Dylan 'nicked' it originally.

Never heard that before, it's excellent. I actually forgot one of my favourite songs that I completely forgot was a cover:

I guess Sinead O'Conner did a great one of The Family's Nothing Compares To You which was written by Prince.

Speaking of Prince, the solo he did on this version of Guitar Gently Weeps is fucking phenomenal.

The story behind it is great too. It was a show for the greatest guitarists ever and he was pretty much snubbed, so this solo was a fuck you to everybody there.

Big fan of his. Possibly THE most incredible musician that has and will ever live. I went to the O2 to see him and never sat down. I actually cried during Purple Rain.

Watched the clip loads of times but.... here I go again.

Prince is fantastic, and highly underrated. I have a mate who has a similiar story about Purple Rain. He was at (I think) Download festival watching Prince, and was pretty much enjoying himself, but the heavens opened, then they shone a load of purple spotlights out towards the crowd while Prince played Purple Rain. Said it was fantastic, the best gig he's ever been to (and this is a guy who ssaw Led Zep live).

On topic, Johnny Cash did a Nine Inch Nails song which was better than the original.

To be fair now I've got my music head on, this is a great version of Whiskey in a Jar:
