Good Luck Hughesy - Stoke Sentinel

Think the BBC are already reporting that the other two in the welsh tafia have signed up.

Before football, Mark Bowen had a useful sideline as a game show host. Most notably known as the presenter of Bullseye, he had a host of catch-phrases which were uncannily prophetic given his future link-up with Hughes. These included:
"Look what you could have won!"
"At least you've got your bus fare home"

He needs to sign Dynamo

Hughes was shocking at City. Spent millions and finished lower than Sven's team. Our worst manager since Alan Ball apart from Stuart and Beany.

no no , he worked wonders behind the scenes & made us a more professional club, de niro said so , and then ran away again when asked to explain himself.

I've nothing really against Mark Hughes , and if he can do the same job at Stoke that he did at Blackburn then he could well turn them into a top half of the table side that are worth watching ......

it won't be easy for him , but they were going nowhere under Pulis , and only won NINE league games last season ....... someone like Mark Hughes surely has to be worth taking a chance on.

That's NINE more than he did.

the man is a complete joke and you can rest assured Stoke will not be finishing anywhere near the top half of the table next season - will be a good punt for relegation.

He's not going to make too many changes except strengthen the forwards....

And destroy your youth set up

He'll spend the first half of the season claiming the squad isn't fit enough, telling the public he want's every player to be the best he can be........at least when they're relegated, they'll be in rude health......

Hi all,

I am a reporter at The Sentinel and we are running several articles on Mark Hughes' appointment as the new Stoke City boss.

I would like to gather some opinion from fans of his former clubs and was hoping to hear from a Manchester City supporter.

If anyone is happy to provide some opinion on 'Sparky's' reign at City and his appointment at the Britannia Stadium then please send me an e-mail: dave.knapper@thesentinel.co.uk.

Thanks,
Dave
Arrived July 08, spent a load of money, finished the 08/09 season 1 place lower than the season before under Sven, spent a load more money, then only won 7 out of 17 games, deservedly got sacked Dec 09.

It is testament to Hughes that so many of the players he signed, the proper Hughes signings, played even this season in City's better performances.

He got us to our first proper semi final for 28 years too.

I hope he does well Stoke.

Pablo Zabaleta - £5m
Vincent Kompany - £6m

I expect him to do about the same as Pulis

We also need a caption and, like the Mancini one, I suggest one line in the local language and one in English. Any suggestions for this and does anyone on here speak Stokie?
Ey up duck! Tough luck
above a headline
"MARK HUGHES TO MANAGE STOKE"

Heartfelt commiserations from the City of Manchester

Think he will do better. He bought well for us and grabbed what he could at immense cost but the stakes were high.

Hes now experienced a lot as a PL manager, this position will be his live or die appointment

Jo (18M), Robinho (32.5M), RSC (17.5), Tal Ben Haim (5M), Wayne Bridge (12M), Adebayor (25M), Lescott (22M)..... Pab Zab and Kompany were good value, but add them to a couple of the above and it is hard to argue that Hughes was astute in the transfer market. Just take the overall 50M spend on defenders, never mind the RSC & Jo debacles.

When the club signs a player and Hughes had to be "convinced of the merits" of signing the player do you think it was down to him? For example Jo and Robinho.

Barry, Tevez, Lescott, Zabeleta and Kompany are still important players 4 or 5 years later. RSC came good in the end but for 2 other clubs whilst on our books.

Tal Ben Haim (5M), Wayne Bridge (12M), Adebayor (25M), did nothing much, whilst RSC (17.5) did fuck all for City, and we still haven't got rid of him.

Justifying Hughes at City is a pointless exercise, he earned the "clueless" name here.

Following the excellent work by my fellow Prestwich blue, I've decided it would be an even more classy gesture if we took out an ad in The Stoke Sentinel wishing our ex-manager good luck in his new job.

I'm told we can have a half-page for 3 Guineas and a full one for 5 Guineas. We need to give them 2 months notice so they can cut the wooden blocks they need for the printing so I need to know quickly who is in for this.

My Indian 5 rupee note is in the post already. Given the conversion rate I think you owe me a couple of guineas!

Can we not just donate a few Farthing to the ST holder in the yellow van with Hughes out on the sign? If so I'm in.
