Greatest Guitarist

Gary Moore, Mark King, Stevie Stevens, Seasick Steve blah blah blah...

Pick any from 100. It's all down to personal choice and moods.

Today I am feeling in a bad mood so it's blues music. Slap a bit of B.B King on, or Mr Moore or Joe Bonamassa...and drift away.

This man took electric guitar from the Model T stage to the Ferrari testarossa

Add in Jimmy Page and Carlos Santana to complete the podium

Django, you silly lot.

Pioneers of more modern music are clearly Hendrix and van Halen, neither of whom are such technical or even emotional players as, say, Albert Collins or that twit from Headache Theatre.

Down to favourites: honorable mention to the current guitarists' guitarist, Robben Ford, not least for his quite unapproachable sound through those Dumbles.

Larry Carlton also pisses on 99% of players mentioned here, and they would all happily admit it.

Good Call as well. Reinhardt?

He must have developed this as well;)

So many brilliant ones over the decades so hard to say who is the greatest.
My favourate is Brian May though.

The best classic rock guitarist is Ritchie Blackmore, by a short head in front of Jimmy Page. Awesome rock guitarist.

No one quite like the Man in Black at his peak. On one tour, I went to five Rainbow gigs and every night was different even though the set list didn't vary, unless he didn't encore. One night (Leicester Granby Halls, I think) was so good that he smashed two guitars.

Satriani.

A heart full of technique. Many are faster, none better.

Look for live Satriani YouTube vids of:

Flying in a Blue Dream (heh)
Raspberry Jam Delta V
Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing
Searching
Made of Tears
Up in Flames

Has anybody mentioned Gilmore--or farther afield John Petrucci--yet? Both greats.
