One of the best performances I ever saw, was Arthur Mann versus West Ham in the very early 70's. Although he usually played left back, for some reason he was played left wing. An absolutely mesmerising performance. poor Arthur never played in European away games as he had a chronic fear of flying.
Another standout performance from the 70's was Big Joe v QPR. Phil Parkes was in the opposite net and both keepers were unbeatable that afternoon. One of the best 0-0 draws you'll ever see.

Remember that trip for the bloody awful conditions getting down there. Snowing like hell all the way, and the Wembley pitch cleared by hundreds of fans to make it playable.
A bit of a contrast to the match the previous Wednesday - away in Coimbra - where it was 70° the morning after, and snowing when we go back.!

Berkovic has been mentioned a few times, but the one that comes to mind was against Norwich when we played with 10 men for much of the match - culminating in a brilliant individual goal to win the match.

Peter Barnes v Juventus - he ran Gentile ragged, and Barnes v Tottenham when we beat them 5-0 and they were relegated. He was unplayable

Scholes thought so and decided to assault him and pretty much got sent off for frustration. Really big day for us as a club trying to break through into the ‘monopoly’.
