Gundogan - Back training 26th June '17

After partially rupturing my ACL a year ago I now haven't got a proper one!!!

You can get by without it, even pro footballers as long as they have intense physio and constantly work on strengthening other parts of the knee to compensate

Apparently Wes Brown has got a deficient ACL in at least 1 of his knees

We have definitely wasted this squad. just look at Yaya, thinner fitter and more hardworking than he's been for years. If he hadn't been allowed to get fat and lazy, we could have seen another season similar to 13/14 and with it another title.

Imagine what Pep would have gotten out of Dzeko with the same extra dedication and KDB putting in crosses?

Yep.

The two Ferns, plus Yaya, in a Pep side as part of a 5 man midfield with fullbacks helping out etc, could be well worth a go imo, vs the top sides, but I expect Pep will want a more full on attacking unit.

Does anyone even know for sure if a previously dislocated kneecap would necessarily impact on his current injury? Perhaps I'm clutching at straws but couldnt it be different knee parts affected by the new injury? A lot of people are declaring his career over without 1) knowing what has happened yet 2) if his previous injury is actually relevant

Sure an ACL injury is bad enough in itself, but can anyone (and this is a genuine question) confirm whether or not it would have definitely been damaged when he dislocated his kneecap?

I shall find out and answer tomorrow

I have an answer

It will definitely have had an effect. Your acl stops your anterior translation of the tibia on the femur. It's probable that as soon as Gundogan was fit to play again, the specialist rehab on his knee cap stopped when it should have carried on for at least another 6 months

If you can find out rehab should have continued for six months, why is it probable it stopped ? Surely the doctors, physios at the club or in Barcelona would know about the correct rehab too.

Think about Aguero and his continual problems and Kompany with his. They get the player fit to play and the rehab stops
Our doctors and physios have let our players down big time over the last few years

Well, not exactly. His price can't solely have been a function of the unexpired term of his contract. His age, ability as well as his injury record would also have been contributory factors.
He had a year out to correct his back, someone posted his injury record at the time we brought him and his back aside it was pretty good,a few times it was illness not injury,i don't recall how old he is but i don't think he is too old

He's 25 iirc and I'm aware of the other matters to which you refer, but all the factors I mentioned would have contributed to his price, not just his injury record.

Gundogon was using the ex Barca doctor as do most of our players with longer term injuries now, so using the past to guess about rehab isnt valid.

Have we had official confirmation anywhere of this being an ACL rupture or are we still going on the post match diagnosis and what that well known medical publication Bild wrote this morning?
