Am I in the Delph thread?
Ric said Gundogan signed this morning. He is a City player. Official announcement may come after shirt deal/unveiling.

Some think he should play the 8 ( I.E CM/Box to Box), some theorize he is the 4 (I.E the player Pep wants running his team from deep) others disagree. Some believe he is probably best at 10, but reckon we have a glut at 10 ( DeBryune, Silva, Nasri, Kelechi) so more than likely he wouldn't play there.

The consensus is that he is a great talent. But most think we need another CM, some think perhaps 2 CMs.

Someone responded, but where will Delph play?
2 guys who never agree on anything came up with a silly suggestion that Leftback might be his best bet. Others sensibly disagreed. But Pep isn't always in line with convention, so there is a chance. Someone suggested Delph could pass for shit (impressed me by adding an info graphic) I appreciate research and stats, bit that's me digressing.

Back to the point.

Now you are all caught up. If anyone else asks. Point them to this post.

You are welcome :)

Not sure I agree that Fernando is a better player than Gustavo. I think Javi Martinez was signed primarily to play centre half unless i'm mistaken. Take your point about Keita.

The midfield rebuild this summer for me is the cornerstone of what happens in the next three years so they have to get it spot on.

Javi Martinez was their lynchpin in midfield the season they won the treble, his first year at the club.

There must be something strange in the air for me to agree with you, but on this one I do!

Delph has got all of the physical tools to be a great left back. Naturally left footed, perfect size and build, fast, athletic, good in the tackle, decent passer of the ball, decent crosser of the ball.

He's looked dreadful at left wing, but I get the impression he's just been picked there and told to get on with it, no coaching or instruction whatsoever and he's looked like a fish out of water.

If Pep wanted to turn him in to a left back he could spend the time coaching and developing him, moulding him in to a Guardiola left back.

The role Guardiola expect from his full backs is more in line with a midfielder than a defender anyway. It's a very specific role that you don't see other manager's playing.

Even if we bought a specialist left back, they would still have to be coached and alter their game to suit Guardiola's system. No reason Delph couldn't be
Sounds like you have just described kolorov above. According to your description Kolorov should be nailed on for a start as a Pep left full. Except for his positional sense is woeful and he often switches off fatal for a defender or defensive midfielder. What is there to suggest that Delph has these essential attributes to be successful in that position? He may have I don't know but it is a tad optimistic to believe he would fit the bill.

Where has ric said that?

Not sure we should have bought a crock, great player but I can see the fans getting frustrated with this season when he only plays now and again. Really unsure, sorry but I'm nervous already.
He is not a crock,he has a bony injury that will recover completely and he had his back surgery ages ago that was a sucess, aside from that no different to anyone else and no recurring muscle injuries

I don't think all of those attributes really apply to Kolarov, mate. He's about 6'2 for a start, which is really tall for a full back. Makes it much more difficult to turn and react quickly. He's certainly nowhere near as quick as Delph. I'd argue he's not as athletic either.

Also, Kolarov is 30 and has played left back his whole career. Delph is 25 and is still developing as a player. I think Delph is at an age and a stage in his career where he's probably more receptive to learning new things, adapting and improving.

From what I have read about Guardiola, he likes his full backs to line up at the same depth as his midfield anchor man. That's around the same depth of the pitch that Delph is used to operating at, but obviously at the moment he's far more comfortable centrally than he is out wide. But I think he could improve with some expert coaching.

I agree, focus and positioning are going to be essential in Guardiola's system. I think Kolarov has proven over the last 5 years that he has neither. Delph has only played 20 odd games under a manager who seemingly didn't do any work on team shape, so it's yet to be seen how well Delph can adapt to this.
