Actually, I do feel we could use a player like Gustavo. He is very disciplined and better than Garcia and Barry for breaking up play and protecting the back four. A really high quality pure holding midfield is one thing the squad lacks unless Garcia surprises us in the DM role. But there is no chance of that happening this summer because there's no way we'll sell both Barry and Garcia, which is essentially what we'd have to do. Rodwell, Fernandinho and Yaya all have box-to-box tendencies which is why the option of a pure destroyer like Gustavo would be useful and offer us more options. A midfield three of Gustavo/Yaya/Fernandinho (or Rodwell) would be immense if we ever needed to pack the midfield.
