Gym Bunnies

Being a fat, horrible bastard, I've decided the time has come (again for about the 10th time in my life!) to do summat about it. I've cut down on the food, been swimming 3 or 4 times a week and I've even cut down on the booze - so much so I have voicemails from the makers of Strongbow demanding to know what the fuck is going on and do I know the damage I am doing to their share price.

I've joined the gym up here and went for the first time last night. Absolutely fucking knackered! I know cardio(?) is the best thing to do for fat burning so been on the bike, the rower, the cross trainer thing-a-me-jig etc but being hideously impatient...

Which exercise/exercise machine will burn fat the quickest?

Sorry if that is an obvious thing, but I'm 16st, stupid and a tad desperate.

Exercise alone won't work, make sure you check your calorie intake 2500 for man on a daily basis, but you should try and aim for under 2000.

The problem with that way is you can still put weight on through fat and carbs even tough the calories are low

Stop worrying about what you are doing, just make sure you do something. Get your heart beating faster, and your muscles moving and you will lose weight just fine. As long as you get your diet in order! None of the effort you put in with the exercise will work if you don't eat properly.

You've started now which a lot of people find the hardest step, just keep at it and you will see results.

I've been embarrassed at my weight the past few months (about 16st 9lb) and as well as eating healthier and cutting out snacking I've been going to the gym 3 or 4 times a week for the past 5 weeks. I normally do 30 mins on the cross-trainer, covering 2km, followed by another 30-40 mins doing some weights (biceps, ab crunches, chest press) and I've lost about 9lbs in 5 weeks. I've got to say I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself and find I'm actually looking forward to going to the gym. I'm aiming to lose at least another stone but I suspect this will be harder to shift than the 9lb I've lost so far.

Completely agree with this piece of advice. Exercise and diet go hand in hand. It's about lifestyle choice and beyond 40 you need to think more seriously about the level of exercise you take and what you eat, drink and smoke.

Just getting into routine that includes exercise every day (doesn't have to be the gym) and being more disciplined (e.g. no beer during the week) will have long term benefits.

Personally I've only ever stuck to a fitness regime when it's been geared towards an activity I enjoy. If it's just running round the park or doing weights in the gym I get bored after a few weeks. I started boxing about 6 months ago and I'm all round fitter - and stronger - than I have been for ages. Find a form of excercise you enjoy, that's my advice.

Try skipping 20 mins of that will give you a good work out

I've been trying to lose the pounds myself I've dropped from 38 waist to 34 waist in about 3 month

I do 20 mins rowing
20 mins on the bike machine using the interval setting
20 mins on the cross trainer with the interval setting

I've cut down alot and drank loads of water, its working for me at the moment

i burn my calories off by shagging any bike, trout or neighbour that will have me....

I keep it simple and walk at a quick pace for an hour very morning and evening, with a balanced diet.

Binge drinking was doing me in. Stopped that.
