That sounds similar to what I'd read altho not sure where I got the Pixie reference from !!He did hate the word Dixie. I understood it was becuse he was thought to be swarthy or a bit dark-skinned, like the inhabitants of the Deep South of the USA, whch was often called Dixie in popular parlance and songs of the day
He was therefore unhappy at being likened to a person of colour, whuch was not an uncommon reaction in less enlightened times. (I'm trading delicately here).
But that's what I was told and it is only hearsay.
I remember seeing photos of him running out the tunnel for Everton and having to look twice at this dark skinned man with a perfect centre parting hair do,greased down on either side.
As another poster has mentioned earlier he was said to be a terrific header of the ball,although I believe Tommy Lawton was the best of his era.
Just think if Haaland could step up his own ariel prowess.....
