Handball rules to be redefined

That was a shocker. So was this one.

Clattenbent.

Enough said.

So if you're protecting your nasties in a wall and the opponent deliberately kicks the ball at you, that would be a pen? Or a foul in your favour?

I suspect the wording will involve something about making your silhouette larger. A strike on an arm across the body should rarely be handball.

its utter bollocks and how on earth can you get out of the way from 10ft or closer even moving his arm backwards away from the ball ?? and you have VAR pin point a milliseconds clip and again its clear he was moving his arm away from the ball ???

look the rules are so daft and open to mis-judgement by the officials that are under pressure from the big clubs to rule in there favour or out you go ?? watch the game on BTsport and peter walton ex match official that hated manchester city big time and still shows it on tv with his remarks about being hand ball ?? 3 ex- players and a united fan presenter said it was not a pen never in a million years

this is why VAR will never work in football because of the rules ??? they are not set in stone and in (black and white) and one rule for everybody, its still down to the match officials and the guy running VAR and how he see's it ??? and if he wants he can see about 20 different reviews to change his mind or just one where it looks like something else just like in the city game when twice they got it so wrong in ball to hand ?? and offside when the ball is played forget the pulling of shirt after in the box the offside should rule first incident

peter walton and many of the ex officials are so bent and hate manchester city and when VAR is being used by them next season the old same old united liverpool getting the rub of the green with the spin of the officials on how they see it

The important thing is not the rule, but that it is so worded that it can be and is applied consistently. See also "offside".
But if you did that their favoured teams would have to deal with the same standards and rules as everyone else and compete on a level playing field, why would they want that?

You have to word the rules so that Ottamendi's "hand ball" was not handball. Arm down by the side trying to put it behind his back.
It should only be handball under such circumstances if the ball hits the arm below the elbow.

It should be very simple.

1. If your arm/hand contacts the Ball and you meant to do so - handball.

2. If the ball strikes your arm/hand when you had no intention for it to do, but by doing so, it either prevented the opponent from being advantaged, or provided you with an advantage - handball.

Under 2, Otmendi’s would br a penalty. The shot was on target and may well have gone in so even though he had no intention (moving his arm out the way) it disadvantaged Shalke.
