The Blue Buus... is callin us... Driver, where you
"Oldboy"?? You want to remake "Oldboy"?? With Will Fooking Smith??!!!

Oldboy fans had their world thrown into upheaval earlier this week when it was announced that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith would be remaking the gritty, disturbing, completely fucked up Korean revenge movie. Both men would probably on the top of any Oldboyers list of people they want to stay far far away from the movie. They’re both known for their proclivity for happy endings, and in Oldboy there is no sappy, happy, finale where everyone comes back from the dead. It’s kind of the point of the entire movie.

So for everyone afraid they might turn this cult favorite into some Hollywoodized disaster, here’s some good news... sort of. They aren’t remaking Oldboy at all! They’re just making the same movie with the same title, but it’s based on the source material Oldboy is based on, not the movie Oldboy itself. At least that’s what Will Smith told the boys over at Film School Rejects. Says Smith, “There’s the original comics of ‘Oldboy’ that they made the first film from. And that’s what we’re working from, not an adaptation of the film.”

Call me a cynic, but it sounds like they’re already coming up with excuses for giving this thing the trademark Smith/Spielberg happy ending. They really can’t help themselves. See, Oldboy fans shouldn’t be mad when we completely ruin everything they’ve ever loved about this movie, because we’re not ruining that movie we’re ruining the source material it’s based on! That makes it ok… right?

Spiel-fooking-berg...??!

Aaaargh!! I can't take it no more...!!

Lucky fucker!

I have seen that "OldBoy" film......pure mad and brilliant too.

The only actor who would fit the lead character in a hollywood version would be Mickey Rourke IMHO.

What do you think of that choice Bigga?

Mickey Rourke... Hmm. Not a bad call, that lad!! Although just to make it interesting how about Brad Pitt(cos it's not role that needs depth and looking at what he did in "Se7en", he may well do a job!) or much more closer to Rourke, Viggo Mortensen!! He'd be believable at the age needed to play the role, as well.

I think he would be ideal, somehow.

Get to fuck! The next thing you'll be telling me is that they're planning to do a remake of 'Psycho'. Sorry? You're not serious? *thud*
Pamela Anderson in the shower holding a can of Pepsi & Ron Jeremy opening the curtain & sticking a fucking big sword in her back........to the music of barry manilow of course.
Not the usual weapon that Ron Jeremy normally uses.

Have either of you seen Barfly starring Rourke and Faye Dunaway? Brilliant performances by both, and a hugely underrated film.

I detest Steven Spielberg. The only film of his I truly love is Duel, and that was his first!
Duel is amazing and was made for TV.

I could do with watching that again soon. I'll dig out the DVD before the end of the year and give it a spin.

As for Oldboy, I found I lost interest once I had worked out early on that it was his daughter he'd fucked.

Let Will Smith remake it, he's a limited actor/singer anyway and this can only add to his career going slowly downwards.

Yeah, I've seen "Barfly". Was good. I don't remember being knocked out by the performances, but I guess I could give it another watch. Thinking of Rourke for the imagined role in "Oldboy", I'm just not sure how he'd deal was a mass brawl scene without the aid of major special effects!

The dude's knocking 60, surely?!
