Just watched this video. Mrs Mercer is a great woman, and she still does come to every home game to watch City. What Tony Book and Mike Summerbee said about her is true, everyone looks up to her, she's got a sort of presence about her.

Happy Birthday Nora!

I went to see Norah last Friday and she is in wonderful health and full of life/vigour. We talked about Norah & Joe's life together (she met Joe when she was 11), City, the owners, everything really. She was 90 yesterday (11th) but acts much younger.

She is, obviously, still missing Joe (who passed away in 1990) and their only son David (who died 2 years ago). But David's wife and his daughter Susan ensure the family remain close.

City fan Tony Ralls brings her to the games and is a good friend to her as well.

She'd find it funny that City have misspelt her name ("always remember the 'H'" she once told me!).

It's because of her warmth, positive outlook, and so on that I decided to update "Football With A Smile" my biography of Joe. I asked for her permission a few months back and, typical of Norah, she said: "I'd love you to do it, but only do it if you want to. If it's too much trouble for you, don't do it."

Too much trouble... it's a honour! Both Joe & Norah deserve to be thought of in the highest regard by all associated with City - and football!

wonder what Norah thinks of the morality of the modern day footballer!!

Men like Mercer were men.

I'm not English, but I would have associated the name Mercer as coming from closer to the border with Scotland

She has a view on today's footballers, but remember she also knew all about Malcolm's life ("a bit of a devil!") so even then some footballers behaved differently.

The name Mercer comes from the textile trade - a dealer in fabrics/silks etc.

Congratulations Mrs Mercer.

She and Joe both sound like people cut from the same cloth.....decent and unassuming.

Can't have been easy these last 20 years, and then losing her only child. Good to hear she has family and friends still around though.

Fully endorse that mate---Happy Birthday Nora!

Belated Happy Birthday Mrs Norah Mercer

That video is really heart warming and is a link to our (glorious) past, when so much has changed.

I sincerely hope its true when Tony Book says "All the lads look up to her"

I would love it if todays modern footballers such as Micah, SWP, etc. etc. knew who she was and the fantastic job that her husband (and Malcolm) did for this great club of ours.

Can see her from my seat in the third tier, she sits on the front row next to Mrs Roy Clarke(?) in the Directors' are on tier 2

Happy Birthday Mrs Mercer

She does tend to sit with Kath Clarke whenever she can. Both ladies represent the 'family' of City that helped create the City we know today. When Joe was manager his wife and son made it their business to help the Blues however they could. A bit like the USA Presidential process, they saw it not just as Joe's job but as the family's life. Joe was boss, but Norah was the first lady and David a supporting son.
