Happy 90th birthday to Peter J Swales

Your dad was 100% right in what he did.

Swales was a greedy thief who stole hundreds of thousands of pounds from the supporters, he took us to the brink just so he could wear that dandruff coated FA 3 lions blazer, what a ****.

Exactly. Swales was given the chance to demonstrate conclusively what mattered most to him on a number of occasions when he could have stepped down to allow someone else to come in, refinance the club and start to try to clear up the mess he'd created.

Nobody should be in any doubt. He was a fan of Peter Swales first, Peter Swales last and Peter Swales everywhere between. The best interests of MCFC didn't feature even for a second in his deliberations.

Ok for those of us that lived through those times, would you change a thing?

Im 48 and consider my age group the most unlucky . Born in 74 i dont remember the 76 league cup win so had to wait all those years until the cup win in 2011.
Older supporters will have caught the glory years of mercer/alison, but not me. I lived through the utter shit show that was the swales leadership. All the while whilst those red cunts dominated.
It was tough.

I recall after one horrendous result or other turning to my dad, genuinly quite pissed off, and asked “why did you make me a blue?”.

It all turned out more rosey than i could ever imagine. And if i had the time again i would honestly want my city ‘career’ to be exactly the same.
Id want tony cunningham to be our big summer signing. Id want swales making every stand at maine road to look different.
Id want steve coppell to last 30 odd days in the job.

So yeah, swales was a knob , he was BAD for city. But hes also part of who were are.
And now, every time we win something, dad tells me this is why he made me a blue. As though he knew and was part of his masterplan
So happy heavebly birthday swalesy, you brillo pad haired , cheap suited, cuban healed old fucker
Being born in 72 and still not remembering 76 I just beat you in the suffering blue stakes! Agree with every part of you have posted pal, except for the bit when you said he was a knob but also part of what we are - city fans are a lot of things but we are not knobs!!…:)

That reminds me of when we got thrashed 4-0 at home to liverpool when i was a kid in the 70s. I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Dad noticed and said - "don't worry son it won't always be like this". It was as though he knew something. I knew something, we were shite for about two and a half decades, that's a hell of a long time, especially being in the same city as United!

Looking back being a blue was both bitter and sweet. We had great fun taking the piss(of ourselves usually) terrace banter through being so fuckin' woeful on the pitch. All down to our shifty eyed chairman, Peter Swales. He should have stayed a TV salesman because he made some dreadful decisions in his tenure at City which made the club a laughing stock. Even Bernard Manning took the piss out of Swales and the club.

I wonder how much at todays prices he put in his back pocket.
City attendances always falsified by a few thousand.
Back in the day Maine Road held 52500 which we filled in the big games. Many a time though we'd get about 38 to 40 thousand and the attendance would be announced as 36 thousand. Most games were pay on the day back then. Made me wonder how much Swales and his cronies embezzled from the club. Whatever amount it was Swales was a crook who's best forgotten about.

We're a million miles away nowadays from where we were but i do miss those bad old days at Maine Road.

“Almost merged“ is way over the top.
The idea was discussed, end of.
I get the sensationalist headline part but why would anyone from our club want to even discuss it? Thank god common sense prevailed and this clown was put back in his box.
