Possibly because she is so self centred she places herself having to face a fine over the life of someone.This is what i dont get about the whole thing. Like you i have now been driving on the right for 8 years and even now occasionally, when I'm not concentrating fully and the road is qiet / singing along to the rado will turn a corner and go onto the left. Not so much now but certainly when i first moved.
Now if i did that and caused a dreadful accident, it would be just that. An accident. Would I expect to go to court? Yes. A fine? Yes, a driving ban? Most likely. Jail? I doubt that very much. It was an accident.
So why did she leg it?
How do you know what's good for them. Why can't they go to America.
If you were in a similar situation and the law says 'sorry pal, we're pretty sure they did it but our hands are tied', you'd say, 'fair enough, now where's the remote I'm going to watch TV'
The law hasn't said anything of the sort. The law hasn't been allowed to get a word in edgeways thanks to the media and the family. The normal process is simple, the police look to speak to her, they find she has left the country. They start the process with the CPS for extradition OR as they do so they find she has diplomatic immunity. This all started with the Princess of Hearts !!!! dying in a car crash. The stupid masses decided they had to go on mass to London to put some flowers down outside Buck Palace.
The other thing about all this is the accused woman will have a great defence now not to return saying she could not get a fair trial thanks to the family and the media.

Would it not be classed as causing death by dangerous driving (which carries up to 14 years in prison) or death by careless driving (which carries up to 5 years in prison)? After all, driving on the wrong side of the road is about as dangerous or careless as you can get.This is what i dont get about the whole thing. That's no excuse for doing a runner, of course. She should have faced the music for what she had done and legging it like she did just makes it seem even more suspicious.
What no one has yet mentioned is she may have been told to leave the country. Her husband is meant to be some 'specialist', a spy or whatever. If he is valuable to the US the last thing they would want is for his missus to be locked up. Maybe the higher ups told her to fuck off. This is what happens in the real world which is why all this media bullshit is just that, it helps to fill some time on boring morning news slots and all day news slots, it also gives a little break in between the Brexit shite.
If she was told to leave she aint coming back. If she has D.I. she ant coming back and if it is neither then the only way she comes back is via extradition. Lets stop the circus and let the cops, MPs and diplomats get on with it.

I think that just about sums it up BM. Still plenty of mileage in it for the media though so do not expect it to end any time soon.

I think it is the intent.... I suspect that's what she would have been charged with (and ultimately convicted of), as I doubt being from another country is a viable defence for driving on the wrong side of the road (even though I completely understand it's easily done).
But she may well have got the punishment you suggested as the custodial sentence is up to 5 years, so could be nothing. I guess we'll never know, unfortunately.

Kaz, my point is going to the states does not put any pressure on her to return. If she has Dip. Immunity she isn't coming back. If the yanks told her to leave she aint coming back. If she has no get out of jail free card she isn't coming back either unless she is extradited no matter how many talk shows they goes on. The whole thing is the new way people grieve, like putting flowers and teddy bears at the scene of a murder. total stupid waste of money. Like turning up at Hillsborough when you don't even know the first thing about football (my next door neighbour) it is just feeding the media frenzy. I would love a psychologists take on it all as I do not think it is good for them in the long run.
