There's not a chance he'd turn United down if they were the only club to agree a fee with Leicester.
Maybe, but if I doubt he's agitating and pushing for Leicester to sell him now given Man Utd's interest. They are not Real Madrid or Barcelona any more, and can often him little more football-wise than Leicester can.

Wages-wise they can offer him a hell of a lot more though, and more often than not money talks.

With our current squad, if no one move on, it's so obvious that we have no need for another CB as Fernandinho will be used as another option there as well.
There’s no doubt we can get through next season without signing a CB. I guess the concern might be more long term than that. There’s a chance we won’t buy again for about 2 years, so we need to be confident the current squad would be suitable until then. Fernandinho will be ancient, Nico might have already left. So it’s weighing up whether we trust in Garcia’s development, or Sandler’s, versus buying now to protect us from any ban.

If it is the transfer ban you think will stop us buying for a while, it would most likely be two transfer windows, rather than two years. so January and one Summer whenever it times in. And i'm sure the club would appeal it, and even if it fails the appeal, it allows the club time as the ban is effectively paused while the appeal is heard. This is what all the spanish clubs have done.

It is a very valid point however, and i agree, any signing has to be a long term one. Which for me personally is all the more reason not to rush in and overpay for the likes of Maguire (unless the club really think him as the first choice player for years to come, which i just can't see myself, but clearly plenty here do). You just don't pay 70m+ for a cover/squad/options player. Not with the model City are trying to stick to.

Ake (and as noted before, i doubt the legitemacy of any real interest) probably isnt a long term first choice target either, but at least makes more sense with the price, age, and equal home grown status, as a player providing depth and options, with a safer re-sale value and future potential. Or someone Like Ake.

OR, nobody at all for now. We didnt rush into signing any old DM for, what, 3 consecutive transfer windows? when it was so clear we needed cover for Dinho. So i don't see us doing that at CB.

The only reason I said two years is because we’d be banned Jan 2020 and summer 2020, but because of the limited availability in January windows, we may not be able to get what we need in Jan 2021, so it could be summer 2021 before we can buy properly, so 2 years from now.

But like you say, there’s more variables with appeals etc

City must have known the rags intention to sign Maguire from the offset with big wages and bigger transfer fee, seems odd we don't seem to be linked seriously with another CB. Is it all hot air from City saying Fern or the youngsters can cover? Confident the powers that be have it all in hand, but the threat of a transfer ban seems to be looming large, shirley we must have another lined up if slab head goes tits up.Fern and Otimendi seems plausible for the upcoming season but what about beyond that?

Or Maguire could be a handy smoke screen if city are indeed looking to sign a CB.
Maybe they aren’t?

Rodri ?

I agree with not rushing into things but not sure if I would rest easy at night if we had to pair Ferno and Otto together
for a run of games due to injury or loss of form. With respect to Rodri he does appear to have the necessary attributes to drop
back to CB if required.

Big risk expecting Rodri to drop into CB imo. Coupled with Stones somewhat erratic form we are playing with fire in not signing a specialist CB.
