Absolutely, and it’s not only FFP. City have earned a reputation of paying only what they think represents value... in recent years where clubs or agents have tried to take the piss we have walked away see Fred and Sanchez. I think Leicester are taking the piss with this valuation. If we pay it - we will regret it over and over again when we move for other players. The art of negotiation is setting limits and sticking to them. Maguire is an okay player and I would object to us signing him but he’s not an exceptional talent and he shouldn’t be costing north of 50m. It’s worth remembering that we have Stones, Otamendi and Laporte plus Fern - so whilst a new CB might be nice we don’t have Phil the Face and Smalling as regular starters... maybe that’s why the Rags will contemplate spending £90m... we don’t need to.

I was very pissed off about Sanchez at the time, but seriously relieved at a bullet dodged now! Never wanted Fred, he's about 5ft 2 and I'd never heard of him til we were linked.

Hopefully if they get Maguire he turns out as shit as Sanchez.

He won't,because he still has incredible desire and ambition and no fitness issues.

He will be a brilliant signing for them.

Your right. He will strengthen any of the top 6. I could live with him going to Chelsea or Spurs something like that. But if he goes to Utd he can only strengthen them.
 
He's not worth more than 45m. He's no better than Nathan Ake or Issa Diop.

Time to move on now, turn our attentions to better defenders for a better price.

Any half decent defender could improve United, but he wouldn't improve us. Let United have him.
 
Outiside of Maguire and Toby at Spurs it's looking like we may struggle for the cb we need for a 60-70 game season. Fair enough quite a few fans don't fancy Maguire.

However, there is a distinct lack of alternatives being mentioned that may be available around that magical 50 Mill plus that many would find acceptable.

But not for us?

If he's not deemed good enough to spend £80m+ on then we shouldn't be after him at all. Did we not learn our lesson with van Dijk? Are we shopping at the top table or not?
 
Let the scum overpay for him as usual, I can see this young Garcia lad playing a bit this season. Hope that is the case as he looks so good with the ball
 
Reported Manchester City target Harry Maguire, struck a gentleman’s agreement with former Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha that he could leave this summer. The defender and his advisors have been told the club will honour that promise. [@MirrorFootball]

Manchester United are willing to pay £90 million to land Maguire while Manchester City are reluctant to go beyond £80 million. Maguire fancies a move to City and the chance to win multiple trophies under Pep Guardiola.

Either he's good enough for us or he isn't. Cost shouldn't come into it, if those twats can pay £85-£90m so can we. If he's not good enough for us then he's not worth whatever we'd pay, find someone else.

What we don't want is for Pep to really want him but we baulk at the fee. It makes us look smalltime and sends the wrong message to other players (unambitious, relatively low payers), media (smaller club than rags/scousers) and rival clubs (pay £5m more in a bidding war and they'll see us off).

If Pep wants him, negotiate with Leicester if it's just us really after him, or pay £1m more than rags offer them. We should NEVER be bullied/gazumped by that bunch of shit bastards at Trafford.
