Harry Maguire

Perhaps Maguire would make the same, or fewer mistakes than other options in his position, if he played under Pep.
You’re flogging a dead horse, in fact I’ve openly said I’ll be happily proved wrong.

The “highlights” video posted as proof showed multiple errors in his short passing game. I merely highlighted those errors, clearly much to the annoyance of said poster and yourself who jumped on the bandwagon, who clearly just want to ignore those incidents and deflect attention (e.g. Stones).

Crazy that £280k wages is being thrown about. Do they really think we'd pay him more than Aguero, KDB, Silva etc? I don't think Laporte, Stones or Otamendi get more than £150k a week. We turned down Alexis Sanchez before he turned into Jozy Altidore, we're not upsetting our wage structure for Harry Maguire.

Fernandinho has filled in at centre back on a few occasions. That doesn’t mean he’s a centre back. Zinchenko is very young and seems intelligent enough to play a number of positions. I wouldn’t discount him from playing in the centre for ANY team. I think he may surprise a few.
Nailed on striker and Kun’s replacement

'Jumped on the bandwaggon'

I'm discussing Maguire in the fucking Maguire thread.

I haven't even watched the fucking video

I'm just making the point that I've seen ALL of the 'ball playing' central defenders, make bad choices & hit bad passes, including Maguire, so it doesn't say anything to me one way or the other.

I've seen him play shit passes, as I've seen Stones, Laporte, Otamendi & Kompany play shit passes, plus Fern & Gundogan play shit passes in front of them.

They all get most passes right.

It's what happens IF he signs for City, that will matter.

This is Hamish Mcguire we’re talking boot.

A fortnight ago, I didn't think this deal would happen because I didn't see how we could outbid Man Utd so I was surprised to read the press reports of a deal in the final stages. It would not surprise me in the slightest if these press reports turned out to be entirely fictitious.

There’s no point in getting frustrated at me for your own mistake. You specifically replied to my post which was a response to a different poster in which you clearly failed to understand the context. If it was just general Maguire discussion then you had no need to reply, let alone multiple times to a specific post, especially when the person you’re getting angry at actually agrees with you to some extent.

Pep said last year we want more in the air , more aerial ability . And he said that when we had Kompany. Now it's worse because we lost Kompany.

10 of 23 goals we conceded last year came from corners and set pieces. That's a bit under of half of goals we conceded, it's 43.48% exactly.

1)At the first picture we have the best players in the air (aerial/headed duels) of the europe's top 5 leagues.

Minimum is 48 headers won. That's about 450 players there.

2) And at the second picture we have only players from PL

Kompany was at 68% of the aerial duels he won
Stones 67%
Otamendi at 61%
Laporte at 60%
Maguire was at 78 % the best in top 5 leagues and at Premier league.

They trying to improve the team . And this they will do . Maguire will only improve us plus he is very good with the ball at his feet.

Do you want some wild cards?
Rodri at 68%
VAN dijk at 75%
Koulibaly at 56%
Nico Elvedi who recently linked with 60%

The De Light deal isn't done yet and there are rumours that its far from a done deal. As is ourselves signing Maguire.

If a deal was advanced as the Mirror claim, I think we'd know by now. I think the report was wrong.

Fee aside, the postives I get from this are - a big bruiser of a defender that will solidify our aerial threat at both ends. Confident enough to bring the call out and a seemingly a very popular player with fans and players alike. He's also ready made, knows the league and is available. I would also add, that v's Leicester 3 times last season, we only scored 1 goal on each occasion and Maguire completed each game. He seems to organise and defend fairly well. Re-emphasised by Leicester keeping clean sheets either side of our game v Arsenal and Chelsea. He also scored v Liverpool - as they dropped 2 points at home.. we know how important little bits like that are. And of course, Leicester beat us in December where Harry was MOTM.

When I look at the above and say does he show signs of being a good defender... well yes.

Other than go the route of shiny new European defender.. we have to go homegrown and with Walker, Stones, Delph, we have decent picks out of what's available and all under 30. Maguire fits in nicely into that. Seems close to Stones and Sheffield-born with Walker. The only English CB's are really Smalling, Gomez, Jones, Dunk, and Keane. It's bleak.

The fee is rightly above £50m... but should be no more than £60-65 IMO.

If he’s playing the same high line as we tend to now then I don’t see what he’ll improve when teams go long. His blistering pace won’t help that’s for sure.

I can't find a single goal conceded last season after such a long ball. Maybe you forgot about Walker and Ederson...

Here are all 23 PL goals we conceded last season.
Not the best quality footage but good enough to see our weaknesses Pep needs to address:

If I was Walker I would never watch that video for the rest of my life

I always thought Maguire was a left hand side Centre Half.
If we sign him one of our first choice CH's will have to switch sides.
Laporte looks good on the left not sure if either will be that good on their "wrong" side.

It goes all 'ballet on ice' at one point.

Look little doubt he is a good player and would improve us in the ways mentioned, the problem is the cost as reported and any knock on effects this may have.
