Harry - We belong in top four

Tottenham boss believes his side should remain amongst elite

Harry Redknapp is confident Tottenham will bounce back from Saturday's draw against West Brom and reclaim the fourth place he feels they deserve.

Spurs' bid to secure a second successive season in the UEFA Champions League suffered as a blow as they dropped two points against the Baggies after Simon Cox's superb 81st-minute equaliser.

The 2-2 draw leaves Spurs one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who play their game in hand at Blackburn on Monday night.

Redknapp's side have now won just once in their last seven league games and face the daunting prospect of tackling Chelsea, Liverpool and City during the run-in.

"We won't be deflated by the result," said the Spurs boss. "It's not the end of the world, everybody has results like that.

"We had the game in the bag and then the kid (Cox) hit a worldy. It was unreal."

Defeats to the likes of West Ham, Wigan and Blackpool have cost Spurs dear this season, but they have performed well against their rivals at the top end of the table.

And Redknapp believes that taking points off Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool while reaching the Champions League quarter-finals shows that his team merit a place in next year's competition.

"We belong in the top four," he said. "We battered Man City on the first day of the season and couldn't get the win. We can give anyone a game. We've drawn with the top teams but they were games we could easily have won.

City spending

"We pushed Man City all the way. At the start of the year I thought Man City would win the league.

"I saw them bring in Yaya Toure and David Silva and all these people. I thought bloody hell! Then they brought Dzeko in for £28million!"

This week Redknapp called on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to spend big this summer, even if they have to settle for a Europa League place.

But the Tottenham boss admits the huge demands of selling clubs is likely to rule Spurs out of signing some of Europe's biggest names.

"It's hard finding top players," he said. "Clubs want crazy money.

"We enquired about (Villarreal striker Giuseppe) Rossi, and they were saying he's worth £35million. Crazy money. Way beyond what we can pay."

We've been in the top 4 for the most part of the season and if results go our way then we'll finish there as well. Thats the only criteria that deserves a top 4 place twitcher. Does he ever shut the fuck up?

Aha, so he thinks they now have a 'divine right' to be in the CL due to a few special nights at White Hart Lane.

It's exactly what the vast majority of Liverpool fans believe, and it's very, very, annoying. You only 'deserve' to be there if your points tally warrants a top four place after 38 games, 'Arry. It's looking increasingly more likely that you won't do that this season, so stop worrying, chin(s) up, and try again.

Exactly you tit, you couldn't beat us even though two of our most influential players had virtually no pre-season because of their involvement in the World Cup Final and looked way off the pace that day.

harry you fiddling, tax avoiding, untrustworthy, twitching ****, you be battling with arseanul for 4th and 5th position.

i know there`s many a slip between cup and lip, but if we can manage a win today, and at home to whu, both of which i think we will do, and chelsea stuff you next week at stamford bridge, which is on the cards, we`ll be on equal games but 7 points clear. thank you and good night.

City p32...pts56...... Spuds p33...pts55
Blackburn A, 3pts.... Chelsea A, 0pts
West Ham H, 3pts... Blackpool H,3pts
Everton A, 1Pt........

When me meet them,we SHOULD/COULD be 5pts clear,
a draw at COMS,(with our better goal average) should be enough with 2 games remaining.
Also they have Dippers away ;)

There is a strong possibility that Spurs wont qualify for Europe at all next season.

IF we win our next two, Spurs lose at Chelsea next week and Liverpool win, then Spurs vs Liverpool becomes almost a play off for the Europa league

We've drawn with the top teams but they were games we could easily have won.

this reminds me of a classic bill shankly quote after liverpool had lost a game 1-0. "if we'd have scored one instead of none and they'd scored none instead of one we'd have won 1-0."

it was bullshit then & it's bullshit now.

I actually despise him, I used to have some sort of respect for his achievements but he's just a miserable bitter ****.

"We tried to sign players in January and daft figures were being thrown around, we tried to get Giuseppe Rossi and they wanted £35M, that's crazy money, money we can't afford."

Didn't they put in £30M bids for Rossi, Llorente, Aguero and someone else? That's more than we have spent on any one player since Robinho and over the course of the last 2 seasons, the 2 biggest spending teams are Spurs and City. The **** can throw himself off a bridge if he thinks Spurs merit a place in the top 4 because of his tactical nous.

Haha.

I'm surprised he managed to stop himself from saying they actually are in the top four.

If we qualify, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Spurs turned up on the night of the first match and tried to get on the pitch.
