Has this been the best world cup ever?

I don't think it was all that. The group stages were decent with lots of goals and drama but the knockouts have been tentative and edgey and a bit dull. 1966 was the best World Cup for two reasons. The best country on the planet hosted it. Then won it.

There were some fantastic group games. Holland v Spain, Germany v Ghana, USA v Portugal and I thoroughly enjoyed that stage. Since then its been a bit of a bore fest. Dull games with teams set up not to lose. I also think that good sides are so tactically astute now they almost all cancel each other out.

Though my country won it, it wasn´t a great world cup. That "best ever" hype by the media is a bit boring, not only in football.

I can remember the 1970 world cup and for me that was the best one.
