TV has only one HDMI which is being used by SKY HD - I also have a DVD surround sound which uses HDMI also and everytime I want to watch a DVD I need to swap HDMI cables. I can pick up a splitter quite cheap (About £8) but this is not automatic switching it seems -How will this determine which HDMI source to use ? If I am watching SKY is it purely a case of turning the DVD player off? Likewise if I want to watch a DVD do I have to turn SKY off ( I may be wanting to SKY+ something while watching a DVD though which means keeping it on! ) I know I dont HAVE to use the HDMI sockets but sort of like defeats the object!
Alternative is upgarding TV which has 2 HDMI sockets which seems a bit extreme!

Does your TV have a component input? If so, connect either your Sky or DVD (preferably your DVD) to your tv via component cable and bobs your uncle. Component is HD just not as strong as HDMI, although you can still get 1080p out of a component connection.
