Help with iPod Classic volume control

The Mrs got me an old school iPod Classic,what I did not know until today when I fired it up was that it's set to a fucking crazy low volume,I tried to increase this through iTunes with no success,do I have to now buy a headphone amp to get round this shit volume level ?

Different headphones may help as I think impedance will make a difference (no doubt I'll be corrected on this :) )

I use to have the 160GB classic up until the HD failed, a sad day...

Sorry to but in on this but was wondering if anyone out there could help .i have a brand new I pod 16 classic and also a brand new laptop my music is on the laptop but will not go and stay on the I pod we have reset factory settings several times it says it is syncing but they don't stay on any help would be appreciated.
