How much data would typically be downloaded when using the site? I’ve noticed when using it on 4G it seems to use tens of megabytes in quite a short period of time. I’m guessing it’s related to ads downloading.

Same here mate.
I can go through a month's allowance in a matter of days

Try downloading an app called Onavo ..... it compresses the data so you don't go through as much....may help
