I've been told since i was a kid that the highest ever match attendance in an English domestic game was Man City FA cup fixture.

However on Wikipedia (shite source i know) says it was a match played at Maine Road but Between the Rags and Arsenal (85,000)

Does anybody know of this City game which holds the highest attendance and if they do could they possibly provide me with the source of the information?

The very thought that the Rags may hold that record at our own hallowed turf is just sickening

Cheers Blues.

City allowing Utd to use Maine Road coincided with their up turn in fortunes and our's heading the other way...Up till this point we were the Manchester club...more popular , more successful and bigger crowds.....post war saw a huge increase in support for Utd, including it is rumoured Dissillusioned Blues, and by the time they were back to OT they were pulling bigger crowds than us...it wasn't until the late 60's that we came back on a level footing.....Here we are again today with a similar chance...let's hope this time we grab it and hold on to it.

The highest English football crowd outside of Wembley was City Stoke in the FA cup. The highest league crowd was utd Arsenal at Maine Rd.
The Stoke game was the bigger attendance.

Post a link to your Wikipedia source so it can be corrected.

Rags

Highest home attendance: 83,260 v Arsenal at Maine Road,[E] First Division, 17 January 1948[64]

The 1934 crowd was higher

Please say it's not true!
It is true.
Which means that City v Stoke 84,569 is the highest domestic attendance in England.

it was,but the FA cup..the rags have the league record all be it at maine road..

so Maine road hold two attendance records. :)

If you want a rag to squirm just point out that the Swamp's record attendance was for a match not involving the rags, 76,962 for Wolves v Grimsby in an FA Cup semi-final.
